NEW YORK — Aug. 12, 2009 — The worldwide leader in software and the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer have entered into an alliance that is set to deliver a groundbreaking, enterprise-grade solution for mobile productivity. Today, Microsoft Business Division President Stephen Elop and Nokia’s Executive Vice President for Devices […]

Clevo TN70M Netbook/UMPC Review.

Posted on 12 August 2009

At 535 Euros inclusive of Windows XP Home and European taxes the Clevo TN70M is remarkably cheap for a convertible touchscreen device. The overall quality is good and there are no show-stoppers but there’s a few issues that get in the way and are probably going to stop most buyers in their tracks. Large size, 800×480 screen and a huge amount of competition from netbooks narrow the target customer down to a very niche segment indeed. In this review I take a look at the main features of the Clevo TN70M, give you some test results and opinions and see if I can find out exactly where the Clevo TN70N is aiming. Thanks to Mobilx.eu for sending the TN70M over for testing.

X70 UMPC Customers report issues.

Posted on 12 August 2009

We love reporting good news but we’ve been keeping an eye on some negative reports from X70 owners and it’s time to highlight them. Crosstalk on the speakers, flickering screen, poor WiFi quality and a weak USB port have been reported by owners of the X70 ultra mobile PC on our forums in the last week. I recently received a retail model of the X70 and can certainly confirm two of those issues. The Wifi reception quality seems to be poor and there is definitely crosstalk noise on the speakers, […]

Rumour Pic: HTC Leo with MIDPhone Specs.

Posted on 12 August 2009

The discussion of what is and isn’t a MID will continue forever but I guarantee that most people would say ‘yes’ to this being one. It’s a rumored device from HTC called ‘Leo’ I mentioned it briefly in a ‘MIDPhone’ post a few weeks ago but there’s now an image showing a candybar (or possible slider?) phone and some great MID-centric specs to consider. Snapdragon MSM 8250 1Ghz Display 4,3″ 480*800 capacitance touch-screen 512 ROM and 320 RAM Camera 8mp with autofocus Wi-Fi, A-GPS Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, support GSM/EDGE, […]

Update on UMID availability, screen issues.

Posted on 12 August 2009

Despite the UMID MBook [details] being a very powerful and very small little computer at a very reasonable price, it has never really gained the traction I thought it deserved [review]. The USB dongles and the screen hinge were two significant issues but despite that, I thought we might have seen more action on blogs and forums than we have. To get a handle on what’s going on I contacted UMID to check that they hadn’t gone the way of OQO and Raon Digital. Here’s what they said. Chippy: Is […]

FINALLY, the Disney netbook is here!

Is there anyone who hasn’t been eagerly awaiting a Disney branded netbook? Well await no longer, the day has come. Disney and Asus have teamed up to provided just that a Disneyfied netbook. Available in both Magic Blue and Princess Pink. In all seriousness, the Disney netbook from Asus actually looks to be a compelling buy as a computer for children. Featuring “intuitive and fun applications inch as well as “robust safety features inch to keep kids safe on the web. Specs are… well, let’s just say it’s a netbook: […]

Gigabyte Touchnote Long Term Testing.

Posted on 11 August 2009

I’ve had a Gigabyte Touchnote for four months and so, as it’s now making it’s way over the the US, now is the right time to give you some thoughts on the device having used it and played with it as my only netbook/notebook since I bought it.

Touchnote T1028X now with Bloggers.

Posted on 11 August 2009

Liliputing and Netbooknews.com both have Gigabyte Touchnote T1028X’s in their hands and videos and first thoughts are starting to appear. Certainly the price is the main point of note with the T1028X. It looks like a netbook but has a low-end notebook price. In reality, it isn’t really a netbook. With the touch-capable high-res screen, convertible form factor, upgradeability, smart manager and gesture software, multi-touch mousepad, fast SATA drive, N280 CPU and pre-wired 3G antenna you’re getting way more than with the average netbook. Gigabyte would have done well to […]
