Only 24hrs to go now before I set off so it’s time to put the kit list together. For the blogging and media creation (including video editing) it’s going to be the Gigabyte Touchnote T1028M convertible touchscreen model running Windows XP. I’ve also got a spare battery for a total of 8 hours working time.

…and this is just the stuff they have in their garage! I know that Viliv will have the S7 there and as always, there could be a surprise or two.
Note that the new Archos 9 will be there so unless someone gets one to play with this weekend, it will be the first chance for a good hands-on test.
Keep and eye on my ‘channels’ that are streaming through on the MIDMoves home page. Flickr and Twitter are likely to be the first places that I send information to.

You’ll probably recall that I got my hands on a matte black retail version of the oft mentioned UMID M1 a few weeks ago. In the initial unboxing, I noted that the build quality felt really good on the retail version. There were a few unsettling reports of some poor build quality on pre-retail models, but all of those seem to have been put to rest with the retail version finally sifting through to folks.

Starting at 1:00 PM Eastern Time on September 21st and running through October 10th, every S7 order will receive a free spare battery ($110 value!). So says the email I’ve just received from Dynamism…. The Viliv S7 weighs just 1.76 lbs (800 g), yet features fantastic battery life, integrated 3G connectivity (optional), and a swivel-touchscreen–making it a true “mobility-tablet”. The S7 has a run-time of 9.5 hours under ideal conditions. This feature is made even better by four-second wakeup from standby under Windows XP. Starting at $629, the Viliv S7 […]

Apparently white is not a girl’s colour. At least that’s what my wife and daughter tell me. “Blue or Read would be better. This is just going to get dirty.†Hmm, since when did women think about practicalities?
Despite that, I’ve managed to convince my wife to take on the S7 as a personal mobile computer. She works in the health and fitness industry and is often out and about at customer premises using Windows-based measurement and analysis software so she’s agreed that it would actually be quite cool to turn up with this.

The UMID Mbook (#11 in the charts today) represents one of the smallest most efficient PC’s in the world. The Netwalker (#8 in the charts today) represents one of the most powerful ARM-based devices in the world. Both platforms are capable of running desktop operating systems and being designed into a handheld form factor.

When I started using the Omnia Pro I was well prepared for fonts that would be too small (in real sizing terms) to read. I’m having to zoom in on Opera Mobile to read text despite it being rendered properly and that’s one of the reasons that 3.5 inch screens with 260+ pixels per inch just don’t really work that well with standard web fonts. One the other extreme is this which is simply bad software design. The image below show’s the Omnia Pro’s email application in landscape mode as […]

Thanks to the 1500+ people that dropped into the live session last night. It was a huge success with an average 150 people logged into the chat session over the 3 hours that we were broadcasting. It’s clear there’s a lot of interest in the convertible UMPCs/Netbooks. The first part of the session last night was dedicated to the Viliv S7. I unboxed a fresh S7, went over the device and then we discussed some detail. JKK then compared it with the T91, another excellent and flexible mobile productivity choice. […]
