Archos 5 and the starbucks test. Originally uploaded by umpcportal.com There is a mobile computing test that no-one speaks of. It’s called the Starbucks test. You simply take your mobile device into Starbucks, put it on the table and take a deep breath. There are only two possible results. You either feel good or akward. Today I feel good. Thumbs up for the Archos!

The Archos 5 feels like a great e-reader to me. Be it Google Reader or e-books. In this article and video I talk about some of the features of the ebook reader programs available for the Archos 5 Internet Tablet. You’ll see FBreader and Aldiko demonstrated.

It looks like Windows 7 and some invisible tabletPC marketing force is spurring people to make web pads left right and center. The Ebook reports that the Lbook T9 will be coming to the market next year for an interesting retail price of $350-$375. If they really can achieve that than we’re in for some interesting times.

In interesting device popped up at JKKMobile yesterday. A new Kohjinsha device that, according to JKK, could be based on the existing UMID M1. It looks a lot deeper than the UMID, about the same size as a netwalker. Should perform faster than the netwalker too. It’s based on the Menlow platform and will be running XP.

Benchmarking video performance is a complex topic so i’ve taken the ‘peoples benchmark’ – YouTube – and demonstrate a 2Mbps H.264 ‘HD’ file streaming from YouTube on the Archos Internet Media Tablet.

I have just been watching a very interesting video from the Adobe MAX 2009 conference. It’s the Keynote from Kevin Lynch, Adobe CTO, who demo’s Flash Player 10.1 for mobile devices, smartphones and netbooks.
