If you are in the netbook or MID business and haven’t looked through the Intel IDF content catalogue yet, do so now. Download relevant PDFs before they are gone because they contain some real information gems.
For example, IDG are predicting that the netbook market will reach over 30m units in 2011 rising to 45m in 2012 and that the netbook market will represent just 15% of the overall market for laptops (staying steady at 15% from 2009 until 2012 at least.

JKKMobile and Pocketables both have the Sharp Netwalker in their hands. It’s an ARM-based handheld clamshell-style device running Unbuntu and is available through import. First impressions of the device aren’t stunning but both JKK and Jenn have some good detail in their reports.

Many of you know that I’m re-cutting my teeth in the smartphone world over at MyOmniaPro. What better way to track the smartphones as they move closer to MID and UMPC territory than to buy one, write about it and talk to the smartphone fans and experts out there. I even joined my first ever smartphone podcast this evening with WMpoweruser, PDA.pl and UnwiredView.com. It was great to talk to those guys about features, user requirements and operating systems. Running a blog at the edge of your core catchment area is a great way to keep a balanced view.

A few months ago I took hold of the 4.1 inch Toshiba TG01 and said no! It’s too big for my pocket. It’s the size that really struck me. For a phone, it’s HUGE! There’s simply no way that the average person is going to be able to use this as a 24/7 phone.
