It was June 2007 when we first got excited about the Mobile-ITX platform from VIA. It promised PC-like performance in a small and efficient motherboard and it looked like it would allow slicker, more efficient UMPC designs. Over 2 years later, the Mobile-ITX product re-surfaces.

The WireLession W1060, also known to many as the Witstech A81, is a brand new MID (mobile internet device) using the Cortex A8 processor which is the same processor being used in the iPhone and the Archos 5 Android Tablet. WireLession is a distributor of the A81, and has re-branded it with their own designation (W1060) and logos. Last time I checked, the device was priced at $220 on WireLession’s site.

Available in the Asian market is this slim and cheap clamshell device that looks a lot like the UMID M1 UMPC. This one is definitely aimed at the consumer though because it’s running Android, dictionary software and a relatively low power Marvell ARM-based CPU at 624Mhz.
