BYD T10BPT 10” Capacitive Tablet on PineTrail

A lot of the 10 inch PC-based tablets we’ve seen recently have been built around the ‘old’ Diamondville CPU and 2-piece chipset which, although good, it’s as good as the Pinetrail platform that is now rolled out for new netbooks. Smaller mainboards, lower power and a light boost in performance is exactly what’s needed to improve the Windows 7 experience in a tablet form factor and that’s exactly what BYD have in their T10BPT. The tablet is a an OED device looking for someone to pick it up and run with it but based on the specs and JKK’s video here I wouldn’t be surprised if someone does just that.

RJ45 and only 1GB of RAM, lack of webcam? fail.

“Only 1GB of RAM”? You did see that this is a 10 inch tablet, right?

I also see that it will run W7, and I have plenty of pcs, laptops and umps to tell you that 1GB of RAM, is barely enough. 2GB is much better, and 4GB is smooth. And I do not think that display size has anything to do with RAM requirements of Windows 7.

UMPC manufacturers better step up their games soon. Soon smart phone power will take over the attraction of UMPC’s OS power. I actually feel a pull more toward the interface and user experience as a huge selling point for cell phones. E.g. Window’s mobile 7. How do you compare the ease of windows mobile 7 verse having to double click through windows xp menus just to surf?? The only device I’m looking forward to is XP phone. Since to me it has the best usable keyboard and mouse. But how attractive is windows mobile 7 for daily web activities? It’s a hard sell and UMPC manufacturers have not been very innovative recently. (we’ve heard of xp-phone, tablets, clamshells for years and there still isn’t a game changer) I really pull for UMPC concept, but no ones created a game changer.

I dont know about this, but i have seen a few tablets or slates with only 1gig of ram, and they are also upgradeable to 2gb, there u have the wirelession units as an example. I like the hanvon ones and i think HP Slate will rule big time.
