A ‘source’ has told Techcrunch that the HP Slate project has been stopped based on issues to do with the operating system. It doesn’t surprise us although naturally, we’ll be sad if this is true. Pricing, weight and features were good although we never expected it to be a ‘performer’ because of experience we’ve had with similar builds. If this is true, it speaks strongly of the mismatches we have in the market right now. The fact is, dropping Windows 7 on an Intel Menlow platform is a relatively easy […]

The eviGroup Wallet is a 5 inch resistive touchscreen MID running Android in much the same way as the Archos 5. Based on what is likely to be a Samsung ARM11 CPU though (probably the S3C6410 as we suspect the device is from SMiT) it’s not going to beat the Archos 5 on processing power. What it does bring is a low price, a camera and a semi-rugged design. We’re not 100% sure yet but it might even have a 3G module in it. It was certainly announced as having […]

Fusion Garage CEO, Chandra Rathakrishna, has let loose with a post over at Fusion Garage’s new blog. Chandra says that he plans on “communicating directly with you on developments from within Fusion Garage and on industry issues” in the new space. So far, it seems he’s done just that. In his first post, he addresses many of the recent criticisms about the Joojoo [product page]. What matters here is that he isn’t claiming that said criticisms are invalid, he’s accepting them for what they are and speaks of how Fusion […]

News about a new Sony VAIO “Ultra Mobile inch has me pretty excited. I’ve been a long time fan of the Sony VAIO UX series, and have been wishing that Sony would reinvent the Clie UX as well. According to a teaser page on Sony.jp, they’ll be coming out with a new device. Unfortunately, I don’t think that this one will be the answer to my dreams. Let’s take a look at what we know and what we can infer from the available information: The first thing we should ask […]

I’m not one to let companies hide the real price of a device behind a subscription but at the moment I can’t find the full, unsubsidised price of the ARM/Android-based HP Compaq Airlife 100 that has just launched in Spain. Based on the two prices below and similar subsidy deals, the full price if the Airlife looks to be about 450 Euros. It sounds expensive for a smartbook doesn’t it but it’s not. A 3G-capable ‘smart’ book (I’m calling them ‘social netbooks’ to avoid the wrath of the company that […]

If you’re in Europe, I’ve got good news for you. The JooJoo tablet is now available to pre order. No, don’t laugh because there’s an interesting twist here. The WePad is up for pre-order in Germany too.

Sascha Pallenberg, MeetMobility podcaster and editor-in-chief at Netbooknews attended a recent WePad live demo and has posted his videos. They’re in German but I’ve been through them and pulled out some of the important points here. (Luckily I also speak German.)
