Update: Live session over. Thanks for all that joined-in. Unboxing, open review video and first impressions will be up at my xperia sub-blog.

Yup. Heads-up because Chippy just bought his first ever Android phone!

I’ll be unboxing it this evening. Check out the details at a new sub-blog I’ve started just to track my experiences on the Xperia X10. We’ll have JKK of JKKmobile with his 2.1 Droid and i’ll have the Archos 5 Andoid tablet to test against.

Hope to see you later.

    I received mine 10 days ago.. but it’s not android 2.1 ..
Battery is less than 15hours life time even after making a completly factory instalation and without wifi, gps , BT ????
And can’t be charged with a standard external battery pack !!!

It’s pity .. I like the xperia X10 .. but till now it’s useless due to battey life

I got 9 hours out of mine today. I was using it a LOT and it doesnt surprise me at all. Big screens take a lot of power. The Xperia is not for people that need to make a lot of voice AND data activity which is why I always talk about the two-device strategy.

  5. chippy says:

I have been looking fora an all-day messenger. The Nokia E72 is probably the best but you lose fast internet, apps, touch and so much more.
I’m someone who likes a two-device strategy and doesnt believe in convergence (aka corner-cutting) but i’ve bought an X10 (for whatever reason) and i’m going to do my best to try and work out if high-end smartphones are mass market or just mass blogging fodder!

SOme impressions going up on my xperia blog later. Let’s discuss specifics over there.

I sound like a broken record but if you wanted an all-day messenger what better way of getting a phone with a keyboard (N900 for example) and with the excellent twitter, facebook, skype, MSN, google talk , you-name-it integration I don`t see any other phone in the market beating it….I`m a two-device guy myself, but from the moment I got the N900 in my hands I started not believing in this theory.Indeed the N900 is a step to the right direcion of an all-in-one device….can`t wait for an Atom based smartphone with an open operating system!

  7. denix says:

I love my N900 and had it for almost half a year now. But it still (it gets better with every new firmware) can’t deliver all-day messenger experience yet, if you start using all the twitter, facebook, skype, MSN, google talk etc. accounts on it…
Don’t hold your breath for an Atom! It’s x86, it’s just not meant to be power efficient. That’s why all the CE devices are ARM-powered…

  8. denix says:

What’s the use of all those blogs, if their RSS feeds are butchered? It’s 2010 – people don’t read blogs on the Web. I understand you need to make money from ads, but you are losing your readers. I know numerous blogs who believed their loyal readers will stay with them, even when forced to go to the Web due to short RSS feeds. They had to restore full feeds later anyway…

SEO, my friend, SEO… organically ranking high in Google by delivering highly targeted content on one specific area.

  10. chippy says:

I’m sorry denix. It does seem to help and trust me, as an independant, I don’t get the deals that big media productions get and I need to do every little thing I can. That’s also why there are ads on the Xperia blog.

  11. fab says:

@denix… you might be right, but….we like Chippy and his work (as we do with jkk and the others…) so for now, we don’t see any “issues” in reading blogs…

Steve, what was your main decision to opt for the SE version of an Android phone?

I don’t know the X10, but after having tried and tested some of the SE smartphones, i think other companies just do a better job.

if it’s because of the camera…i can just say: HTC Desire!!!! if you want, i can post some pictures and you will be surprised about what HTC managed to do with the quality of pictures.

  12. Jan says:

You can also put some ads inside the rss.

  13. john says:

try talking…is always good for a videocast

  14. sophocha says:

….and why not a N900? Sony customises it`s UI so much that you going to find yourself lost in it!….also not so great on their updates.

    Looking forward on your review.

I´d buy almost every Phone that runs native linux applications and not any proprietary runtime environment crap. Also the drivers should be FOSS.
And of course I´d disable any cloud functions or problematic googleservices like gmail. Too bad the Freerunner didn´t get there and Nokia isn´t truely open.

some people reading here have to do serious work durning the day …. no time for feeds, twitters and all this ultrashort living stuff passing by …. i like to read and discuss things when i have time … that’s why i read blogs and news papers
