From time to time I like to gather my thoughts and knowledge on CPU’s, GPUs and processing platforms in the ultra mobile market and re-base my knowledge. My last report was on ARM platforms and is available here and after Computex in June I want to do the same for al X86 platforms but in the meantime, I’ve been gathering information on Intel’s Queensbay which is going to be presented at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing on April 14th. Although Queensbay is a product intended for the embedded market, […]

This article is aimed squarely at people that want to be connected and productive while mobile. Through years of testing mobile computing (and consumer internet) devices we’ve picked up plenty of knowledge on the subject and in this article, I list the significant items that are important when considering the iPad. The list doesn’t just apply to the iPad of course and it’s not exhaustive but seeing as many are looking to use the iPad as a productive device (and I’m honestly very happy that people are trying) it makes sense to put this information out there.

If you’ve been wondering about how much faster a build of XP on the Viliv S10 might be, or how much difference an SSD upgrade might be, wonder no more because I’ve just tested it out…and then dropped back to the default setup. It didn’t bring enough advantages to make it worthwhile.

Some people say that twitter friends are important influencers. This morning, Arne Hess threw a big one my way with a simple "I must admit that I’m deeply impressed by the SE Xperia X10 8 megapixel camera!" [source] Wonderful. Just as I get over my desire for the Satio (plastic, not fantastic) and the Vivaz (Steve Litchfield wasn’t that impressed so I’m not impressed) out of my system, I now have to reconsider the Sony Ericsson X10 that I had previously discounted due to expensive price (around 500 Euro making […]

While every major site may have raced to get their iPad review out before the end of launch day, we’re taking things slow here and spending a reasonable amount of time using the device before passing any judgment. With that said, our full review is still brewing; for now I’d like to drop some info on the slate after using it for about a week. I’ll give you three chances to guess what is surprising me most about the iPad. Is it the build quality? Perhaps the battery life? Maybe […]

A lot of people are still asking “where does the iPad fit into my life? inch I believe this question will be answered once we start to see actual iPad apps instead of simply giant iPhone apps. I’m not trying to say that iPad apps don’t already exist in fact I think there were about 1000 at launch but the problem is that the majority of these applications (the free ones anyway) are simply iPhone apps that have been scaled up, and maybe beautified a bit, for the iPad. But […]

If you’re the type of person that’s more interested in kicking back in a comfy chair with a coffee and your favorite internet sites and apps rather than looking to get productive with UMPCs, you’ll want to take a look at our sister publication, Carrypad. We’re focusing on consumer media and internet devices and building a database of all that’s interesting. Here are some of the recent news highlights: ICD Gemini Official Specs Confirmed.
