This won’t take long. What we’ve got here is a Moblin build that has picked itself up from being stopped-dead in it’s tracks buy a huge corporate direction change. I imagine that partners that were working with Moblin before MeeGo was announced are pleased that they can finally get back to work in optimising their builds for end products. The core build has been changed and there has been some re-working of the user interface. Chrome has been added as the browser. What is also clear though is that the […]

David Flynn of APCmag.com in Australia has uncovered an interesting device whilst at Acer’s Source Home conference in Beijing. The as-yet unnamed tablet devices is running Google’s Android operating system and sports a full QWERTY keyboard and embedded 3G. APCmag qouted Acers CEO and president Gianfranco Lanci as saying the device should arrive in Q4 of these year. There are a lot of Intel-related rumors and unqualified information that fly about and one of my jobs is to mash all that up and try and work out what’s happening so that I can ‘skate to where the puck is going to be’ as Steve Jobs would say. This article is my best, educated, guess at what Intel’s ‘tablet’ silicon would be.

Brad at Liliputing has put up a first-look video of Meego 1.0 for netbooks. Clearly the UI is based on Meego as is still using clutter instead of Qt and there don’t seem to be many major changes apart from Chrome being used as the browser. Brad does report that it’s fast though As I write, i’m installing to an MSI Wind and will do some testing. I’ll also test the image out on a Menlow device. I doubt it will work but let’s see! First look at MeeGo v1.0 […]

Jkk seems to have gotten his hands on the official European version of the Dell Streak [Portal page] (aka the Dell Mini 5) which launches soon in Europe. He has a thorough 24 minute video walkthrough with the device which you can find over at his site. A few notes about the device from Jkk: – I would like it to have a kick stand on it – Dell UI is ok but I think I still would go with standard Android – It should have a micro usb port […]

The MeeGo core code 1.0 and Netbook User Experience builds have just been released. Obviously I’m downloading it as I write this and i’ll be reporting on it as soon as I can (lots happening this evening though. I might have to leave it until Thursday.) One of the big changes is that there’s a version available that includes Chrome. Chrome has been chosen as the default browser for MeeGo going forward. Watch out for the Chrome Web App store! The SDK has also been released (for netbooks only at […]

Wondermedia are a subsidiary of VIA Technologies that launched their product, an ARM-based platform for low-power computing appliances, this time last year. We’ve heard a few bits and pieces about them over the year but it seems that they are now gearing up for a wave of customer products that will launch later this year. Richard Brown, Marketing manager for VIA, has been in the U.S. briefing the press and has also taken the time to write up a little bit of information on his blog. The press articles I’ve […]
