We’ve had a few emails and ‘heads-up’ from people about potential issues with the Enso Zenpad but because of the lack of resource here to investigate , we just haven’t been able to give you any reliable information. I’d like to point your attention to Engadget now though so if you’ve ordered a zenPad, please add to the comments here or there. The Zenpad is an ARM11 tablet made by SMiTS and also sold by EviGroup as the Wallet. We are in communication with EviGroup about getting a review sample […]

In a press conference today, Intel presented their processor range for ultrathin laptops. Naturally, many of us want to know if the processors will reach down into the tablet space so I put the question forward to Mooly Eden (right.) It was given a surprising answer. Intel will disclose a special tablet solution at Computex. Here’s the question and Mooly’s answer as an audio file. Click to play the audio segment. I can only assume that Mooly is talking about something in the ‘Atom’ family of processors. This could be […]

In a Webcast (still ongoing) by Intel today, Mooly Eden has just presented Intel’s processor range for ultra-thin laptops. Based on Nehalem, products will include Intel Turbo technology that will allow cores to run up to thermal limits based on live measurements. The U3400 (1Ghz Celeron) , U5400 (1.2Ghz Pentium) could be interesting for high-end UMPCs although Mooly talked about 17W TDP in his presentation. Remember that the parts are relatively expensive too. Mainly though, this is a product range for stylish laptops… Update: In the Q&A, Mooly mentioned that […]

Once again, it looks like my trusty Gigabyte Touchnote, my Canon S2IS and my N82 will form the hub of my mobile computing gear at Computex this year. Despite great advances in technology, I’m the mobile-tech-blogger with the old kit and the reason is process. See previous editions of my mobile reporting kit here. I’ve been using these devices successfully as one process unit for so long that if I replace any of them I’ll break a delicate chain. If I change the camera I can’t hook it up to […]

It’s a question I’ve been looking for an answer to for a long time. There are plenty of tablet manufacturers that are in the dark too. Why doesn’t Google allow Android Marketplace on non-phone devices? It’s crippled the Archos 5, the Camangi Webstation, the Compaq Airlife 100 and many other devices. There are also OEMs out there that I speak too that can’t even open a dialog with Google on the subject. It was fairly obvious that they wanted to protect and preserve the quality of the Android experience but […]

There’s been quite a bit of debate, since the release of the iPad [Product page][review], over whether or not it can function as a full computer replacement. I don’t believe that anyone can seriously say that the iPad could work as a full computer replacement for someone who would consider themselves a mobile professional — there are simply too many things that the iPad either doesn’t do, or doesn’t do well enough, for that. There has been, however, some reasonably logical arguments asserting that the iPad could replace a computer […]
