Huawei S7. Complete Android Tablet. Forgotten Video. Unbelievable Price.

Posted on 24 June 2010, Last updated on 31 July 2015 by

I can’t believe I forgot to post the video of the Huawei S7 [information] from Computex. I wrote, excitedly, about it soon after I saw it, edited the video, rendered the video and then promptly forgot to upload it. Thank goodness Liliputting jogged my mind today with a post about the price.

Before you check the price though (Liliputing link below) have a look at the video and see if you can guess the price. I’m not going to tell you what it is here but the title gives you a hint. Come back and comment when you’ve checked it out, especially if you think I’ve missed something obvious.

It seems too cheap for a Cortex-based, capacative touchscreen tablet with HSPA, voice, and a full Android build. Why isn’t the Motorola Droid this cheap? I’m checking with Expansys. (And buying one if it’s fully specified.)

This is promising, but I still aim for the lower-powered Archos due to its primary function of playing the damned videos I have. Archos is PMP with standby Net and app capabilities. This would be a tablet with limited PMP ability. Different beast.

  2. Chui Tey says:

It’s pronounced Hoo-wah-way. They got to do something about the name.

  3. turn.self.off says:

looks interesting, tho i would not mind a smaller non-phone device.

sure hope archos gets a 2.1 android device out soon, with marketplace this time.

  4. fauli says:

Hm… in Germany the price will be 369 Euros… thats rather expensive in my eyes…

  5. Rampy says:

    Price in Germany..
    starting at 229,00 Euro Date : Dec/20/2010

I’ve ordered one despite some negative reviews

  6. chippy says:

At the price, its not bad at all.

This sounds very interesting. I’m an HD2 user (love it) and am getting an iPhone4 (purely for fun … not a replacement to the HD2). I’m very frustrated by the change in direction of WM and have been waiting to see if Android matures to include the power apps I was always used to with WM (Softmaker Office, Cash Organiser etc). This would be a great opp for me to start to experience Android without commiting a huge amount of money.
I am a little puzzled by a few things though. The review suggests it is Capacitive .. but single touch. Is it a hard screen (glass) like the HD2 but just not multi touch ?
Expansys suggests it isn’t multi tasking … which is odd as I thought Android had full multitasking like WM6.5 etc.

What is the OS upgrade position. I understand 2.2 Froyo is a fairly big leap and out now. Will you be able to upgrade a 2.1 device to 2.2 and how does this process work ?

The short hands on you did mentioned it had a GPS but I see no reference to that on UMPC db or Expansys. Can this be validated.

    I’m all excited …

    Paul.

Looks like we might be getting one soon. I’m quite excited. Great value for a MID with 3G.

£299 on Expansys UK. Imagine how cheap a 3.7 or 4 inch device with the same specs could be. Only thing I didn’t like on the specs that I saw was only 256mb ram.

  10. 68guns says:

    Looks good…don’t need the 3g or the $400.0 + price tag…i’ll pass

  11. Will says:

So, will this thing make phone calls in the US(continental)? If not then no way I would pay close to $350. I have a G1 now and I am looking to trade up and so far the best choice for “pocketable” and large screen and great features seems to be the HTC EVO.

  12. Geekaholic says:

is the touchscreen resistiv oder capacitiv?

  13. Chippy says:

The one I tested in the video was capacative.

  14. Will says:

Oh I didn’t realize earlier, 7″ screen. By all means not a cell phone. Still I wonder how it would do in a Cargo Pocket since regular pockets are out of the question. Still, if it can make calls then I would just use a wired headset with a in-line microphone. Kickass.

  15. joerg says:

The Huawei S7 Tablet has a resistive Touchscreen. Updates for Android 2.2 will be possible, if they are available.

  16. chippy says:

Our order is due for delivery on the 13th July

  17. ethan says:

do you need a data plan for the phone part do you need pay every moth since its a phone

  18. Mike says:

According to the eXpansys liars, this will now be available between the 1st and 5th of September. But, the eXpansys liars have been saying that this would be available in the next week or so since early June so maybe October/November?

  19. Ibu says:

try handtec UK for best price.

    cheers

  20. Martyn says:

The S7 is resistive while the S7 Slim is capacitive with Andriod 2.2

  21. chippy says:

Thanks Martin. S7 slim needs investigation.
