I can’t believe I forgot to post the video of the Huawei S7 [information] from Computex. I wrote, excitedly, about it soon after I saw it, edited the video, rendered the video and then promptly forgot to upload it. Thank goodness Liliputting jogged my mind today with a post about the price. Before you check the price though (Liliputing link below) have a look at the video and see if you can guess the price. I’m not going to tell you what it is here but the title gives you […]

Looks like we were one of the lucky people that got our iPhone 4 [Portal page] a day early, and fortunately that means you get to take a look at it a day early with us. Check out the video unboxing below as well as some photos. Just to note, I mentioned that the iPhone 4 doesn’t come with a SIM ejector, but I didn’t say that it also doesn’t come with a polishing cloth as the iPhone 3G once did. Stay tuned for more.

Many of you have asked about the inking ability of the Acer 1825 PT I reviewed two weeks back, so I thought I would do a short demonstration video of it. As you can see its not a perfect experience and won’t provide the same level as a full tablet PC with an active digitiser but it usable for short note taking sessions.

Viliv have just shipped an N5 to me (and I suspect other bloggers) for long-term testing and it’s expected here on the 25th. (Friday) so if all goes to plan, you should be seeing an unboxing video on Friday afternoon. I’ll try and sync up with JKK to get a live session going too. As for availability, I’m expecting the delivery here to coincide with an announcement of pricing and availability at Dynamism so stay tuned over the next few days. The N5 has been the #1 device on the […]

After Computex in Taiwan, a speaking gig in Barcelona, a casual weekend away in Holland and four days with my mother I’ve forgotten what my desk looks like. I’m even sitting on a train to Hannover as I write this! During the last weeks I’ve also built up reliance on an unnecessarily large stable of mobile devices and it’s frustrating me more than ever because we are deep in a changeover phase where nothing is ready. Obviously I haven’t bought all of the devices above (*1) so if I was […]

Shame. While the Libretto W100 looks good and opens the mind, that second touchscreen is obviously more for the marketing than for the people that were attracted to the original Librettos. Like a diamond-encrusted iPhone, the W100 seeks out media attention rather than addressing the issue of getting things done when on the move. Not only is the hardware keyboard missing but the battery life is going to be an issue as this appears to be running on a laptop processor. Imaging trying to use this anywhere near a window […]

I reviewed the Compaq Airlife 100 last month. It was a device that both excited me and yet at the same time, highlighted the huge gap that exists between Android and a full-internet, desktop computing environment. The slim, lightweight, location-enabled, app-store enabled always-on, always connected capabilities are something that every netbook designer is going to have to think about soon and yet the simple ‘slave’ nature of the device (try hosting peripherals) and the huge gap between the Android browser and the desktop browser becomes a roadblock to productivity. The […]

Mobile Mix-Up Originally uploaded by umpcportal.com Ive been away a lot over the last three weeks to the point where I have hardly been near my desk. The image shows the devices I’ve been using. The problem is, each one has its uses and shortfalls and it highlights what a messy middle-ground we’re in with mobile technology right now. Either the operating system isn’t complete, the platform not good enough or there’s a unique feature that can’t be found on any other device. I’m getting frustrated! I’m writing a more […]
