Thanks to JKKMobile, I’ve had a Dell Streak for a few days and ahead of the live review session tonight, it’s time to give you some first impressions. I don’t have a full retail version here so it’s only fair to point out that the firmware isn’t final on the device but having said that, it’s close, it’s useable and actually, it’s quite good! Starting with the look and feel, it’s a great first five minutes. The glass screen blends nicely into the glossy, stylish casing. The shiny metal rear […]

Dell Streak and Archos 5 screens Originally uploaded by umpcportal.com I’ve got the Dell Streak here and so far I’m really impressed. I’m a big fan of the 4.8″ screen and its ability to give a rich internet experience, a good 1-meter video experience, finger-friendly controls and handheld ‘reader’ experience when in portrait mode. I was under the impression that the Dell Streak was a 4.8″ screen but it’s not. It’s a true 5″ screen. In addition, there are physical Android buttons which remove the need for on-screen buttons and […]

I got myself a big piece of Intel info-marketing at the Intel Atom Software Summit this week and it’s very clear and very significant that Intel managed to drag something like 200 people away from the Computex show floor for 2.5hrs. Atom, MeeGo and AppUp are such important parts of the Intel strategy now that they are getting pushed hard and it seems to be at least raising some eyebrows. The Intel Atom Software Summit at Computex was aimed at the ODM, OEM and operating system community in an effort […]

At an ARM event in Taipei this week I was fortunate enough to have a few minutes with a Tegra 2-based tablet prototype known as ‘Harmony.’ It’s a fairly standard tablet with a capacitive touchscreen and weighing in at the 700gm iPad-weight. You’ll see more details in the video. I also had a chance to run a javascript benchmark test and got an interesting result.

FIC are looking for customers for their 10 inch Tycoon tablet based on the netbook platform (N455 cpu) and running Windows 7. I was a little disappointed with what looks like 2-3hrs battery life (running a netbook platform for more than 3 hours in a sub 1KG package is almost impossible) but the screen was fantastic. Touch, contrast, sharpness and color were better than I’ve seen for a long time. FIC expect to have this ready in Q3 but wouldn’t tell us if they had a customer yet. We suspect […]

This is an interesting one. The design looks slim, working and, well, almost complete! Intel’s reps tell us that it’s just a prototype and maybe this is something ASUS worked on before they decided on the 12 inch Eee Pad that we saw at the ASUS press conference but we like it and hope they pursue it on the Oak Trail platform in 2011. It looks like it’s currently on the Menlow platform.
