As the epicenter of Intel’s work on a mobile operating systems shift slightly towards Europe, being here as an Intel Insider becomes a major advantage. I’ve long been a fan of the Pixel Qi screen technology, its ability to work in direct sunlight is something us tech folk have been waiting on for a long time. At Computex 2010 Pixel Qi showed us the technology compared with a Apple iPad and the results are stunning. Version 1.1 of MeeGo with the Handset User Experience (UX) has been been opened for developers to review and contribute. A full release of Moblin 1.1 is expected in October. Some images of the handset UI have been revealed too. For more information, see an update I made to my MeeGoNews log. Hope to see some of you at the MeeGo Developers Conference in November.

If the hardware and OS is cheap why not build business applications on top of Android? It’s proving to be slim, secure, well-supported, well documented and programmers are relatively easy to find. As we move forward we’ll see more and more single-use business applications move to the Android platform and the vertical markets that were the main customers for Windows-based ultra mobile PC products could fade away leavingĀ even less reason to make Windows-based UMPCs.
