I’ve seen a few references to a forum entry on Android Community Forums over the last 24hrs and while I don’t think the case in question can be rated highly, the thought that it generates is an interesting one to discuss. Update: Techcrunch have been investigating and have some more details here. Rumour: Amazon will start an Application Store [Ref: Amazon cooking something up?] I’ve been analyzing the Intel AppUp store recently and also thinking about how Android-based tablets can solve the problem of not having the hooks and channel […]

It’s a simple question that we probably can’t answer until the devices reach experienced hands. The Blackberry Playbook was announced this evening and despite the rather humorous and consumer-sounding name promises a “high fidelity inch web experience. CPU and screen details sound promising so if it really can offer a full internet experience this could be one of the first ARM-based tablets to offer an alternative to Windows-based tablets for Web-application users. No keyboard, no 3G, unknown storage, unknown removable storage and a lack of information about apps and the […]

Notice something about that headline? It’s no longer the Viewpad 100, it’s the Viewpad 10. (Which makes sense as @thDigitalReader just pointed out to me) More interesting news is that the pre-registration page is open. It doesn’t give any information on availability but at least you’ll be first to get the information when it’s available. Note that the page is a UK-focused one which is as expected. The Viewpad will probably roll out in the UK before other countries. As there’s no hardware keyboard, that should be a fairly quick […]

I honestly don’t know why it’s taken me so long to come up with this simple feature. It too me 30 minutes to write code for it this morning but I think it’s going to help a lot of people keep in touch with the products in the market. Although we have about 600 entries in our product database now (not all UMPCs mind!) Ben and myself have been talking about stepping up the data entry into the database and increasing the rate to catch up with all the consumer […]

It’s something we’ haven’t reported on before despite all the rumours but today could be the day that changes. BlackBerry DevCon10 is starting today and there’s a high chance that we’ll hear something about the BlackPad or at least the related operating system and app ecosystem. (Keynotes start at 1300 Pacific.) Blackpad is the rumored tablet product from RIM and although no official word is out on the specs, many commenters feel confident that it will be a 7 inch tablet running software from QNX, a company that RIM bought […]

While I dropped some test images and videos comparing the iPhone 4 and Droid X myself, I wanted to highlight and article over at tnkgrl Mobile which has more comparison info and a detailed write-up of the strengths and weaknesses in the cameras of each phone. If you are looking for a phone with a good camera, you are definitely looking in the right direction with the Droid X and iPhone 4, but between those two, finding which one fits you might just depend on which type of user you […]
