We’ve spent a week in San Francisco at one of the biggest developer shows of the year and haven’t posted a single article on Carrypad yet and that’s because most of what we saw was Windows-based. That, in our eyes, isn’t exactly the ideal solution for consumer-focused solutions we would be reporting on at Carrypad. The Dell Duo was cool but it’s Windows 7 on a netbook platform with a launcher. The ExoPC was cool but once again, it was a Windows 7 netbook without the keyboard. The Ocosmos OC1 […]

The GMA600 is the GPU that will appear in Moorestown, Oaktrail (Z6xx-series Atom) and Tunnel Creek (E-series Atom) platforms that are feeding in later this year and during 2011. It’s a beefed-up GMA500 (400Mhz instead of 200Mhz) with, in some cases, hardware accelerated video recording and the core design is by Imagination. At their booth at Intel’s IDF last week they were showing off some of the capabilities of the GMA600 and GMA500 that appears in the Menlow platform. We hope that this sort of capability reaches ultra-mobile devices soon […]

While we wait for full tablet and smartphone implementations of the Tegra 2, dual-core Cortex A9-based CPU, NuFront have been working on a high-end implementation aimed at every-day computing. The NuSmartâ„¢ 2816 Computer System Chip is testing in various versions up to 2Ghz. Average power drain (not idle, not TDP) is 2W which puts it in the same envelope as a 1.6Ghz Z6xx Atom CPU (TDP 3.7W) At a demonstration of the CPU we watched hi-def movies and Android running smoothly but were left with the impression that this chip […]

The Duo is looking very very close to production so official specs should be out soon. 1024×600 capacative screen, docking station, N550 Atom CPU and other specs should be confirmed soon. Here’s another video (see a demo of the swivel mechanism) I got of the Duo this afternoon at the Intel AppUp Elements event in San Francisco.

Could this be a new rising for the UMPC? If you take a look at the operating systems shown on nearly all the tablets here at ID, Windows 7 proliferates. The N-Series CPU appears in most too which is strange considering that Oaktrail was highlighted by Intel as the platform that would be used for tablets. Of course, Oaktrail isn’t ready yet so in the scramble to get tablet products out manufacturers are using the N-Series platform and in most cases I’m hearing that an Oaktrail swap-out is planned at […]

Photo via Ken Kaplan Update: Video and specifications now avilable JKK and I are meeting the Ocosmos guys at 4pm this afternoon but I just wanted to give you a heads-up on something that could appeal to many of you. Not only is this an interesting design for productivity, it’s also designed on Oaktrail. That means it’s not going to be in the market until late this year or early this year but it might be worth the wait because Oaktrail is going to bring you more battery life (expected […]
