The Viewsonic Viewpad 7 arrived just as I was finishing off the Galaxy Tab review today so it’s perfect timing for a close comparison. I won’t be doing that yet though because first-off we need to do the unboxing and overview (below) and the Live Review (info) Join us tomorrow at 8pm London time (2100 CET other times here) on the Live Page and spread the word! Some new images are going up into the Gallery so keep checking that too. Full specifications and links, gallery and other videos available on our Viewpad 7 tracking page.
Availability information and information about the trade-in program in the UK can be found here. For Germany, keep an eye on MediaMarkt. We hear that France and Netherlands are next in line but there are no confirmed details as yet.
The Live Review video and chat session will be available here on the 10th November 2010.
The Viewsonic Live Review videos and detailed impressions/review is now available here.

i like the design of the viewpad but why in the world an arm 11 cpu and not a newer one? i can not wait to see your live stream later :)
thank you for the short review and good work!
Trade in makes it interesting.
Pity about the 800×480 resolution.
Is it true that you can’t turn the homescreen into portrait mode?
Yes but I installed launcher pro for $3 and it makes it a better homescreen experience all round.
Which makes me think an article on Chippy’s best Android apps for a tablet would be a good thing…
Viewpad 7 is showing specs of 11.5mm in thickness (not 14mm) vs Samsung Galaxy Tab of 11.98mm :-)
You are correct. In a live-on-video test tonight we saw that the Viewpad 7 is the same thickness as the Tab.

Is this the same as the commtiva n700 in the uk sold in places like tesco, hmv, play.com….. they are going for 299gbp – 329gbp. They look identical and the specs do too.
OK. Well spotted. It’s exactly the same. I wonder if Viewsonic know about this ;-)

Heard that theres a slight difference in firmware o this one but if its the same hardware it might be worth buying in the hope of a 3rd party upgrade.
For 100gbp cheaper a little firmware difference won’t matter to me.
Full review videos and notes available now.
