The HP 500 tablet was an important milestone for low-cost Tablet PCs as it combined the finger-friendly capacitive type input with the pen-friendly digitiser for using some of the important features of Windows 7 at a breakthrough price. The combination is perfect for those wanting true PC productivity in a tablet and really, without that digitiser, there’s a mis-match between hardware and operating system in my opinion. It was encouraging to see Lenovo Ideapad Slate offer dual-mode operation too and that one pushes the envelope even further by using the […]

The average weight of a 6-cell netbook is somewhere around 1200-1300 grams with true battery life of about 6hrs so seeing the specs for the Acer Aspire One 522 (AO522-BZ897) is quite encouraging considering the increase in CPU and GPU processing power that this will offer. 6hrs sounds good but let me send a quick warning out because the power envelope of this device is likely to reach much higher than any netbook. I predict that you could run this baby dry in under 3hrs if you pushed it hard, […]

So today is the big day for people who have been predicting that Apple would launch a Verizon iPhone at every single Apple event since the original iPhone announcement in 2007. Nice work guys, your “predictions†came true 4 years later. And while it’s still just the iPhone 4, there’s actually some advantages over the AT&T version.

While ARM and Android is allowing designers to move mobile computing products into the personal computing space, Intel and Android are going in the other direction. We’ve seen Android on X86 before and it doesn’t really impress when it’s on a standard PC platform with no always-on, GPS, 3G and market but when it’s shown on Moorestown, as it was last year at MWC, it’s another matter, especially when it’s Intel’s official build of Froyo for the Moorestown platform. Here it is again in the Gemtek Zeus home tablet with […]

In terms of build quality, the Enspert E301 stood out from the other tablets at CES. It’s from the company that brought you the Inbrics M1 (and used to be called ‘Identity.’) The Inbrics M1 never reached EU or US markets so let’s hope this one does better. With cellular data planned for the device, we think they stand a better chance this time round and based on what we’ve seen, this is up there with the best of the non-Honeycomb tablets. Full specs are in the database but here’ […]

With an incoming surge of Tegra dual-core Android tablets and phones hitting the market Nvidia have made the move to highlight Tegra optimised games. Tegra Zone will launch highlighting several games including Dungeon Defenders, Fruit Ninja HD, Back Breaker THD and Monster Madness.
