I was just having a little chat with Zinio yesterday. They’re the people that put magazines online (and are part of the Galaxy Tab ‘Readers Hub application) bit as I tested the latest update on Android, I spotted something. I didn’t know this 7″ tablet that seemed to be performing quite well. A look at the back surprised me somewhat as I’d just come from the Viewsonic stand. I have no real info as there was a reluctance to let me mess around with the device. . . which tells […]

I’ve got bad news for many of you that were very interested in the Ocosmos OCS1K slider ultra mobile PC today. The slider version has now been dropped (Official. It won’t be produced.) in favour of the mini tablet version you see in the middle above. For a company that tries to promote its own multiway pad input solution, I guess this isn’t surprising. Specs are shown above and the only thing I can add is that the battery should be bigger in the new version leading to longer battery […]

I have been surprised at the claims of battery life on Oaktrail devices this week at CES. Taking into account the marketing BS (and subtracting 30% and questioning people about how they tested) I’m getting the feeling that Oaktrail devices might be slightly better that I expected. Certainly in terms of sizing we’re seeing some really important improvements. The Samsung PC 7 / Gloria will probably blow the Dell Duo away in that respect and if you compare the Viliv X70 EX on Menlow to the X70 Slate on Oaktrail, […]

I’ve probably been most eager for CES this year to find out more about that sweet Ocosmos ultra mobile PC that Chippy got to fondle back in September at IDF. Today, Ocosmos has announced two Oak Trail UMPCs, but neither of them seem to be that wonderful slider prototype that we saw at IDF. According to Brad Linder from Liliputing, that slider device is aimed at the Korean market. Here in the US and in Europe, we’ll be greeted with decidedly less usable devices because, sadly, they lack physical keybaords. […]

Viewsonic seem fairly clear about the G10S products final specs and seeing as their are some very similar / branded variants on the market already, it is likely that this will be available very shortly. We’re talking about an Android Open Source 2.2 (no Market, Gmail, Navigation etc.) buid on a Tegra2 platform with some talk (!) of Honeycomb. Certainly the specs seem ok, the build quality is acceptable and, to me, it appeared fairly light for 10 inch device. 3G was mentioned too so this might be the main […]

Surprisingly, there’s a bunch of Playbooks here at CES to, er, play with. The number of people her jostling for a touch reminds me of the Samsung Galaxy Tab launch at IDF in September. Something’s going right! Price and applications, these are two important but missing pieces to the Blackberry Playbook puzzle that could make or break the device. It looks a bit plain and is a little larger than the Galaxy Tab but the user interface is swift and ‘physical’; something between the iPad and Galaxy Tab in terms […]

Acer have a reputation in the netbook world – they push prices down. I wonder if that’s going to be the case for the Picasso Tablet? Based on Tegra2 with what looks like 16GB of storage and a capacitive touchscreen it has 2011-potential; Just like the Dell Streak 7. As we get nearer to Honeycomb, more and more people will be trying to make sure they buy a device that is well positioned for the important software upgrade. Tegra 2 is turning out to be just that ticket. The on-screen […]

Samsung was one of the partners today at Verizon’s CES conference, and in addition to an upgraded version of the Galaxy Tab, they also announced a smartphone for Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Oddly though, the press release issued by Samsung is simply calling the phone “The Samsung 4G LTE Smartphone inch. I’m presuming it’ll come under the Galaxy S brand at some point down the road, but for the time being it’s name is somewhat perplexing. Samsung started with the AMOLED screen, then they went to Super AMOLED, and now […]
