While the Intel N450 version of the Viewpad 10 isn’t bad (I have a Tegatech Tega V2 based on the same hardware here) it gets a little more interesting when you move to the N550 CPU; Especially when it’s paired with Windows Home Premium and 2GB of RAM. Having tested a few N550 devices over recent months I know that the combo lifts Windows 7 into a much more usable space where the UI smooths out nicely, mutitasking is closer to the desktop experience, 720p playback works and even a […]

X-Fi Pro Go allows ‘What You Hear’ recording on netbook. Originally uploaded by umpcportal.com For anyone looking for a way to record Skype audio (or other two-way audio conversations) without special software, you might be aware that creative offer a ‘what you hear’ recording solution in their soundcards. You rarely find it on built-in audio chipsets. For the MeetMobility podcast I tend to use two soundcards and a mixer to record the audio across two PCs but when i’m out and about I don’t have that luxury. Skype audio recording […]

CeBIT is a very traditional, business-like show. Suits dominate and after-show parties are few and far between. Companies like Microsoft often present purely business-focused products and strategies and if you’re expecting another huge pile of consumer tablets, you’re probably going to be disappointed. For readers of UMPCPortal, our pro-level site (that has, I admit, been pretty dry on news lately) it’s good news because products like the Fujitsu Stylistic Q550 get a chance to shine. We’ve got the full, official specs in the database now and wow, this is not […]

Why, you may ask, did I just buy a USB audio stick? The answer – ‘What-you-hear’ This is going to allow me to record Skype conversations by using a netbook without Skype plugin software. At least that’s the plan! At about 40 Euros it wasn’t that cheap but I can’t think of a better way to record our next Meetmobility podcast at Cebit next week. Many of the large U.S. based computing websites got a Xoom to test under embargo recently and obviously there’s been a quick rush of content out of the door as the embargo lifts today. (List of reviews below) More images in our Gallery Our Hand-on Here. Full specs, review links and more videos here. Of the Honeycomb tablets we saw at MWC the Xoom was clearly the best in terms of UI-feel but both Samsung and LG still have time to optimise their software before launch. Interestingly, the Xoom is […]

Here’s a video I did demonstrating how I used the Galaxy Tab and Nokia N8 for rich photo blogging at MWC. The combination is the best I’ve ever used and as the WordPress app matures, so does the process. For example, this post was created from a ‘share’ from the YouTube app to the WordPress app on the Galaxy Tab. I just love the Android sharing system! In my last report – How Was my CES 2011 Mobile Reporting Kit? – I didn’t have much positive to say about my plan for quick-fire mobile blogging. 3G failed me and I ended up scrabbling around trying to find WiFi hotspots. Not only is it a pain in the neck, it’s also a security risk. I connected to 18 different SSIDs in Las Vegas!
In Barcelona last week, it was a completely different story. On day-one I used the hotel WiFi but as soon as my 3G card was configured, I didn’t touch another Wifi all week. Everything, including video uploading, was done via Vodafone 3G and finally, because of the 3G, the kit worked together in harmony, including a new photo blogging process that i’ve detailed below.

This is a simple demo post that I’m using to create a video demonstration of Photo Blogging using the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The photo was taken with the Nokia N8, transferred via Bluetooth and posted using the WordPress application on the Tab. The whole process is quick and clean.
