HTC Surround Impressions

Posted on 23 February 2011

Surprise surprise, we’ve got a Windows 7 device to take a look at and it’s the HTC Surround! I’ve been itching to get my hands on a WP7 device, and I’m actually pretty impressed with the out of box experience.

AC100 Smartbook Gets Froyo – Video

Posted on 22 February 2011

Back at IFA in Sept 2010 Toshiba told us the 2.2 update was due in 6 weeks. To be honest, I had lost all hope of ever seeing Froyo on it but sure enough, there it is as a downloadable firmware upgrade through the Toshiba Service Station application today. I’ve downloaded, installed and tested and can confirm that not only are you getting V2.2 of Android with a noticeable performance boost but you’re also getting Flash support which finally enables a reasonable YouTube experience. There’s also the Toshiba market for […]

Nexus S Gallery

Posted on 22 February 2011

We’ve had our hands on the Samsung/Google Nexus S [tracking page] for a few days now and are putting the phone and the OS (Android 2.3) to the test. You may have caught the overview video already, and now we’ve got a bit more to tide you over until the full review, a full gallery! A few choice photos are below, but be sure to swing by the gallery itself if you’re interested in the Nexus S. And while you’re here, let us know in the comments if there’s anything […]

Cupp Computing – Integrated Southbridge Solution for Multi-Architecture Computing – Analysis

Posted on 21 February 2011

As time goes on, the mobile internet, with it’s apps, location, always-on, customisations and sensors, becomes more its own unique Internet rather than just a subset of the traditional desktop Internet and it becomes more and more important to make sure you carry two devices in order to have the full internet experience. Most of us take two or more devices with us when we travel, especially for business as a result of this split. There have been devices in the past that have tried to combine the two and […]

Give the Customer a Break

Posted on 21 February 2011

Surely there has never been a time in technology history since the last World War where products have advanced so quickly. The difference then was that the products weren’t aimed at the consumer and, even if they were, the consumer didn’t have the money anyway. This time round there are millions of relatively rich people able to buy whatever they want. The thing is, there are some amazing products and services out there already but industry insists on changing, churning and cultivating new ones. The end user isn’t getting a […]

Carrypad is 5 Years Old Today

Posted on 21 February 2011

Yes, Carrypad wasn’t a product of the iPad boom. It started on paper in late 2005 as my phone contract renewal time was approaching. I had a boring job and I spent quite a few hours thinking about what I really needed. I was already using Internet data over GPRS on a daily basis and was wanting more. More screen, more flexibility, more battery life and more processing power. There wasn’t a phone on the market that could satisfy my requirements. Convergence wasn’t happening. The first line of my first […]

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Hands-On. Sunspider Test – Good!

Posted on 17 February 2011

On the last day of MWC I just had one more task to do and that was to spend as much time as possible with the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Contacts at MWC had already told me that it was good so I headed over to Samsung with time to spare. Yes, the Galaxy Tab is a quality bit of industrial design. The back feels slightly disappointing if you’re looking for appeasing materials but it’s practical and I’m sure that it’s going to be of long-lasting quality. The camera is good […]

Huawei Ideos S7 Slim – Live Photos

Posted on 17 February 2011

Nicole Scott of Netbook News tells me she isn’t too impressed. She has a point. Its hardly the most attractive device in the Tablet space. The thing is, this will come in at a very nice price. Ben has already highlighted a $300 price which means you have a better option than the Viewpad 7. You’re getting an arm v7 more which means significant performance implements with Android 2.2 and the ability to run apps like flash 10.1. I have a video which I’m going to upload as soon as […]
