Nvidia gave us an impressive demonstration of their next-gen Tegra platform yesterday. More 3D power, more HD video decoding power and two more CPU cores. The press release highlighted better CPU performance when measured against a 2Gz Dual Core Intel CPU and a 3x GPU performance increase over Tegra 2. We had a demonstration of some of the key features and that is shown in the video below. 3D performance is impressive. Video decoding performance is very impressive. A 1440p stream of around 50Mbps was shown. On CPU performance, Nvidia […]

Aachen University, Germany demonstrated an interesting iOS-based application this week at MWC. The application utilises multiple iOS devices as display exptensions to create one large multitouch display. The really interesting thing about this setup is the way that the screen positioning is calculated. During set-up, all but one of the displays shows a visual code. An image is taken of the arrangement with the final, control device which then calculates the relative positions. The final device is placed into the array and set by hand. The result is impressive! You […]

I’m at Intel’s MeeGo AppLab this morning and just entering the second session where the engineers are giving coding demos. While that’s happening, I have a chance to give an update on what I’ve heard this morning. Intel has tried hard to prop up MeeGo this week. ‘Nothing changes’ is a phrase I’ve heard a number of times since last Friday morning and with Intel getting aggressive on their statements around Medfield and Moorestown, you get the feeling that it really is business as usual. A large, no, hugely critical […]

We’ve got the Nexus S on hand for some testing and it’s certainly doing some impressing! In addition to a beautiful display with an amazing contrast ratio, the Nexus S is topping the Quadrant benchmark charts over all other Android devices. Then there’s that whole Android 2.3 thing it’s got going on that has some great tweaks to the OS. There’s a full review in the works, but in the mean time we’ve prepared an overview video for your viewing pleasure, step inside and have a look!

I just wanted to share a good article by Josh Smith of Notebooks.com. Josh sounds about as fed up with US carriers and their “unlimited inch data plans as I am. Every major US carrier advertises unlimited data plans, but I don’t believe any of them are actually unlimited, in the sense that, you know, the word actually means. Pretty much all are capped at 5GB or lower, but they still advertise saying that they are “unlimited inch. Josh has compiled a simple list of steps to ensure that this […]

Fresh out of MWC – Huawei has announced the IDEOS S7 Slim which is a 7†slate running Android 2.2. It looks to be a revised version of the S7 that we saw at Computex last year. Huawei claims that it’ll be priced “below 300 USDâ€, which likely means that it’ll crop up for $299. […]

The Flyer has up to 32GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card, 1GB RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, 3G, GPS and both front and rear facing cameras at 5 and 1.3 megapixel respectively. Tegra and Honeycomb seem to be everywhere at MWC. We spotted the Acer Iconia 100 yesterday but that seems to be the only 7″-er. Everything else is 10″. At this early stage in the Honeycomb lifeline there isn’t a lot of time for manufacturers to make huge differentiation in the software layers so LG have chosen to go the hardware route on their tablet and have added 3D cameras. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to test them. With Honeycomb being so new its difficult to come to any conclusions but I […]
