Today’s announcements by Nokia (there are many to sort through) have shocked a lot of people. The major focus here is that Nokia will now use Microsoft (Windows Phone 7) as their primary platform for smartphones. I want to emphasise that this is a revenue generating strategy. It doesn’t include disruptive computing devices which indicates the removal of risk elements within Nokias strategy. Symbian gets turned into a ‘franchise’ platform (cheap, stable and, probably, with less focus on corporate support.) Important for the financials is that R&D spend drops. Symbian […]

My masterful plan to use the Nokia N8 and the Galaxy Tab for some photoblogging for Carrypad and UMPCportal via the wordpress application failed at CES in Las Vegas. Internet connectivity was terrible (despite having a Sprint MIFI) and so I abandoned it quickly. Barcelona should, if last year is anything to go by, be a lot better so stay tuned for a lot more posts. I’m going to be trying hard no to post photo after photo without any information. That would be boring. Again I’ll be dragging along […]

At HP’s media event yesterday, they unveiled three devices. Chippy told you all about the TouchPad, and he and Thomas gave you some early thoughts to consider. Here we’ll give you the low-down on the other two devices, the Veer and the Pre 3, and talk about bit about how they fit into HP’s webOS strategy.

Thomas and I watched the HP event as close as we could this evening (Credit to Engadget and Twitter!) and I think it’s fair to say that we were both impressed with the might of the announcements. The main event for us was the launch of the Touchpad and after just a few hours of mulling over the specs, hands-on and information, we’ve put some thoughts together for you. Chippy Says: It’s slick, it’s powerful and it’s the underdog. The HP Touchpad, announced today, is getting a lot of support […]

I’m watching live blogs of the HP WebOS event where there’s no mention of Palm! They’ve talked about WebOS and launched the HP Touchpad. This is targeted squarely at the iPad market. It couldn’t look more similar but with dual-core CPU and a great OS, this could be something you might want to team with a keybaord for some productivity. More information coming but specs, images are below. Image via Engadgets live blog More images from the gallery: Specs, via the event and from leaked information and images. Manufacturer: HP […]

With the temperature at 7 degrees it’s difficult to sit outside for too long although the sun, the atmosphere, the smiles on peoples faces make it difficult to head indoors. Tea always calls me at some point though so off to Starbucks we go. Their big mugs of black tea aren’t expensive and here in the middle of Bonn, sitting at the window, there’s lots to see. As I walked through town it was tempting to check out the latest in the mobile phone shops but just one glance inside […]
