The sun is out, the Galaxy Tab is charged and I have a few things to do in town so its time to hit the road and go mobile today. I want to do some more Galaxy Tab photography too so stay tuned for that along with a few posts via WordPress. All this practice will help with my work at MWC next week.

I’ve had a Nokia N8 (thanks to Nokia for the loan) for about 2 months now and it’s about time I wrote a summary of my feelings about it. Remember I’m a mobile/internet camera nut, a long-time Nokia user and also a user of many mobile devices through my work at Carrypad. I hope you find this useful.

I’m following Oaktrail product releases closely and this one, like other Oaktrail products, has some interesting specs. Its the Pioneer Dreambook ePad F10 Full specifications are now in our database but here are a few highlights that you don’t often see together on a Windows tablet. 15mm, 700gm, 8hrs. Obviously you should Chippy’s Marketing Correction Factor of 30% on that battery life but hey, even 6 hours would be pretty good for a 700gm Windows tablet with a 10 – inch screen. Arun Demeure (Twitter:Arun Demeure) has written a must-read article about CPUs for handheld products over at Beyond 3D If you have any interest in the current ARM vs Intel battle, check it out right now. It goes into detail that you might not understand - “When ARM moved to an 8-stage pipeline (2xFetch/2xDecode/3xExecute/Writeback) for the ARM11 in 2002 (4-5 years since the ARM9!) they added dynamic branch prediction (supposedly 85% accuracy) inch but there’s a great summary and some interesting information about power consumption and processes, multi-core and hyperthreading. I […]

Linpus, a company that has been working on Linux distributions for netbooks for a number of years under their ‘Linpus Lite’ brand have been invited to MWC to demonstrate their current offering in the MeeGo and Qt booths. The solution is targeted at manufacturers of netbooks and tablets based on MeeGo. Like MeeGo, the Linpus solution will be a ‘base’ on which to build on through contractual work by Linpus. We’ve seen a tablet UI before but this is more than that. Our predictions for Intel and MeeGo activities at […]

I’ve already posted about what I think will and won’t be part of Intels activity at Mobile World Congress next week and a recent ‘media alert’ sent to me by email confirms my thoughts that this is largely a software event for Intel. It’s all about completing the MeeGo stack from hardware to app store and that means: Moorestown platform – Demonstrating MeeGo and battery life advances. MeeGo 1.2 – Demonstrating multi-touch and other core components. UI layers written in Qt – Compelling demonstrations (probably created by Wind River) AppUp […]
