LG Revolution Unboxing and Flash Test (Video)

Posted on 31 May 2011

We’ve got the LG Revolution on hand and have prepared an unboxing video for you which also features a flash test. I’m happy to report (and somewhat impressed) that the LG Revolution has so far handled YouTube 720p flash video quite well. This surprised me because the Revolution is using a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU as opposed to Nvidia’s Tegra. Have a look below:

CMIT’s Transphone Tablet/Phone Dock Combo Featured at Computex

Posted on 31 May 2011

If you’ve been watching the news out of Computex you’ll have seen the Asus Padfone. This is a cool looking device that will allow you to dock your smartphone into the back of an Asus tablet and use the bigger touchscreen as well as some extra ports and perhaps a battery. But how about this beauty from CMIT called the TransPhone. The TransPhone tablet dock also comes with a bluetooth headset  which neatly docks next to the phone. The CMIT device reportedly packs a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor and SVGA display, along […]

Quanta Snapdragon-powered Honeycomb Tablet Turns Up at Computex [video]

Posted on 31 May 2011

Tweaktown shared a video of a new Honeycomb tablet that stands out form the crowd because it’s running a Qualcomm snapdragon processor. It’s made by Quanta, one of the world’s biggest contract PC manufacturers. It’s only a prototype but the first look video shows it has some good capability. It uses the MSM860 processor which is dual-core and a competitor to the Tegra 2 which all major Honeycomb tablets have used so far. Qualcomm has no intention of selling the device but is looking for a manufacturer to bring it to market. […]

Ultrabooks To Bring Mainstream Closer To Mobility

Posted on 31 May 2011

As you might have read in the press release from earlier, Intel announced a range of activities and products at Computex today but whichever way you look at it, their pivot-point just moved closer to mobility. Not only did Intel showcase a Medfield tablet running an official X86 build of Android (which will have marketplace support) but they launched a new initiative called ‘Ultrabooks.’ Backed by a trademark, they will aim to move 40% of consumer / mainstream laptop sales under this ‘brand’ before the end of 2012. That’s a […]

Viewpad 7x in Hands-On Video, Target Price: $449

Posted on 31 May 2011

A tablet that has been getting a good proportion of the 7 inch Honeycomb news recently is the Viewpad 7x. It’s in the database here but our good friend Sascha of Netbooknews has just pinged us about a hands-on video he’s posted. He’s excited too! Image via @ARMCommunity Micro USB, Mini HDMI, Micro SD, Headphone ports are included with the 1024×600 display. Interestingly there’s a SPB Shell overlay. I wonder why? Is the demo actually running 2.3 instead of Honeycomb? Pricing is looking ok with a target of $449-499 for […]

Medfield Tablet Running Android to be Demonstrated at Computex

Posted on 31 May 2011

Amongst a packed keynote from Intel at Computex today that includes Ultrabooks, Ivy Bridge, Cedar Trail and cloud talk, Intel showcase a Medfield tablet running Android Honeycomb. At least, that’s what a pre-event press release via Engadget says. The event and press release hasn’t even happened yet! (Scheduled for about 2.5hrs from the time of this post) The press release is interesting though and goes on… Intel showcased a “Medfield” design running Google Android* 3.0 (“Honeycomb”) for the first time. In production later this year, the platform will enable sub-9mm […]

FIC Tycoon+ offers Improved Windows Tablet

Posted on 31 May 2011

First International Computer gave me a T-Shirt last year after we reviewed their N450 based ‘Tycoon’ tablet and strangely enough, I’m wearing it today as I read their press release! We were impressed with the screen and build quality and thought they might have a chance for some sales. At that time FIC said they were also looking to do a reference design with Oaktrail so I was a little disappointed when I heard today that the Tycoon+ is still being offered with Pinetrail. FIC have upped the CPU spec […]

Press Release Reveals Intel Plans Ahead of Keynote. Ultrabooks and Android Feature.

Posted on 31 May 2011

While not too surprising in terms of content, this leaked press release, a few hours ahead of Intel’s Computex Keynote, highlights a big shift towards ultra mobile and Atom-based solutions. Key points of the press release are the accelerating Atom program, a Medfield tablet running Honeycomb, Ultrabooks, Cedar Trail and 10 tablets based on Oaktrail. We suspect these tablets will be included in the demo but we’re interested in the missing items! Update: The tablets shown on the Intel booth are from: Fujitsu, Lenovo, Motion, MSI, Open Peak, Toshiba, Viliv, […]
