Recently we spent some time looking at the pros and cons of the HP TouchPad in an article published the other week (lots of great discussion happening in the comments!). The TouchPad is launching tomorrow in the US and will shortly be available in the UK, Ireland, France, and Germany (and in a number of other places in the next few months). In the aforementioned article, I made a few predictions about the device and its software, and we’re now starting to see evidence to support them. Third-party WebOS Devices […]

While I continue to test the pre-Ultrabook Series 9 here (don’t forget the live session tonight) news is starting to come in about availability of what should be the first true Ultrabook, the ASUS UX21. DigiTimes are reporting the news that’s come from an Asus product conference in China. The UX21 is rumoured to use the Intel Core i5 2557M CPU at 1.5Ghz and at with the 11” screen should weigh in at a very portable 1.2KG. The price details are still unknown at this stage but we’re expecting between […]

A few days ago I found a CPU-Mark score for the ‘Oaktrail’ Z670 CPU. It confirms to us in no uncertain terms that the 1.5Ghz single core Atom CPU is, relative to other X86 CPUs, extremely weak and really no different from the first generation Atom CPUs that came before it. The difference with Oaktrail is that the memory and graphics speeds should be vastly superior to that which we saw on the ‘UMPC’ platform, Menlow, over the last few years. Coupled with quality components and good engineering it should […]

As with the HTC Thunderbolt, I’ll be dropping my Xoom testing notes here. This isn’t a full review (though Laptop Mag has a nice thorough one if that’s what you’re looking for). These are just a few thoughts I had while using the device (and waiting and wondering when the 4G upgrade will be come available). Notes The Xoom seems to collect dust and fingerprints very well. More so than other devices I’ve used. The Xoom may lack an olephobic coating that is designs to reduce the amount of finger […]

By now you’ve certainly caught wind of Nokia’s N9, their first, and only, Meego handset. I want to be excited as everyone else is about the phone, after all, it looks great and Nokia has never disappointed me in the hardware department. However, the phone is running Meego, an OS that Nokia has publicly dropped in favor of Windows Phone 7 a few months back. If this was happening prior to the app store movement, it wouldn’t be a big deal. Today, however, phones and their operating systems live and […]
