If I saw this out the window of a plane, I’d be a little bit terrified: This seemingly horrifying scene is the result of the way that images are captured by the sensors that we find in many modern smartphones. Unlike real film cameras, active pixel sensors (like those found in many smartphones) don’t expose every pixel at the same time, but rather, do so in sequence. While the consequences of capturing photos this way is trivial for most things, objects moving at high speed may seem to exhibit […]

TabCo has been making splashes in the tablet-sphere with a major guerilla marketing campaign and plenty of teasing for an upcoming tablet that they’ll be announcing on August 15th. Though I’m not convinced that throwing money at marketing will make a successful product out of an awful one, I’m certainly interested to see what they think deserves to be teased so thoroughly. Until then we’ve got little to go on, but I am immediately reminded of a long forgotten device that used similar methods to build up to their eventual […]

Sony is steadily releasing short videos showing some pretty awesome Rube Goldberg machines involving their upcoming S1 and S2 tablets to build hype for the devices. The tablets, which were recently previewed for the press, are expected to hit the market this Fall. I suppose Sony hopes to keep our attention with these videos until then, but by the time that Fall rolls around, we might begin to see Kal-El devices which will likely blow these tablets out of the water. We may as well enjoy these interesting videos for […]

Calling it out as a challenger to the Apple MacBook Air, APC Mag seems very happy with the Asus UX21 Ultrabook they’ve recently had hands-on time with. “Finally. This is the notebook that brings sexy to the non-Apple laptop world. But its beauty is not just skin deep.” The article doesn’t go into any specifics about the testing done but does quote Q3 availability (Australia) and estimates a price competitive with the MacBook Air. Looks like we will have to wait a while to get specifics on the all-important battery […]

Verizon is well on the way launching all 6 of the initial 4G devices on their roadmap. First was the HTC Thunderbolt, then the Samsung Droid Charge, and now LG’s Revolution. I was expecting the LG Revolution to represent a lesser performing and lower cost entry into the 4G-equipped phone sector though it’s actually priced up there with the others, but also performing better than I had expected.

Remember that commentary we posted on Liliputing’s initial hands-on impressions with the Toshiba Thrive? Well now the device reviews are starting to roll in and we though it was a good time to let you know what the world thinks about the device so far (or at least the part of the world that got their hands on the device early). First off the bat, you have to keep in mind that Toshiba is a television company, and that culture, along with a few others, plays into the product positioning of the […]

Excitement turned to disapointment yesterday when I took a closer look at this 4.8″ UMPC. The Magic W3. No it wasn’t the 800*480 screen that disapointed me the most although Windows 7 on that resolution is not recommended by Microsoft. It wasn’t the small battery which would probably only return 2.5hrs in-use battery life and it wasn’t the fact that it’s aiming for a highly niche phone-pc market (read expensive.) The most disappointing thing about the Magic W3 is that it uses the ‘old’ Menlow platform. Oaktrail technology (that’s the […]
