Chandra Rathakrishnan is on stage right now telling us about a product that slipped out about an hour before the presentation… Actually it’s two products. Grid is a new operating system. A re-build of Android. The first product is the Grid 10. It’s a 1366×768 resoution device using the Nvidia Tegra 2. We’re tracking the Grid 10 in the database right now. This isn’t a Google authorised OS which will mean Google maps, Android appstore. Price: 499 Wifi-only ($100 extra or 3G) Shipping 15th September. Amazon.com ordering available […]

The Eee Pad Slider may as well have been official for a long time as it’s seen more hands-on time than some devices that are actually available! In addition to a few bits that are confirmed on the official page — the device shipping with Honeycomb 3.1 and Polaris Office for productivity work, weighs a hefty 960 grams! — there are a few strange bits as well.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is a very popular device and I’ve seen a number of reports of it being used in productivity scenarios. The gaps between devices like this and traditional laptops are closing and so it’s no surprise that people are testing the limits. Find out where these gaps are with the start of another good series over at Carrypad. The question is, is Android good enough to allow all the gaps to be closed through 3rd party software or are there jobs that will always need doing […]

I’ve been inspired by Jerry to make the move to using only the Asus Eeepad transformer at work. I’ll be using only my Atrix and Eee Pad Transformer for all business related activities, no PC at all. I am passing my Vaio down to my wife to replace an old netbook and the budget doesn’t stretch to a new laptop. Actually it’s pretty slim pickings trying to find a true replacement to the Vaio TT anyway at the moment. My needs are similar to Jerry’s actually in that I have […]

In this article, it is my intention to take a critical look at the Android user interface. Some people may read this as though I’m lambasting Android, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. I quite respect Android as an excellent mobile operating system, but I also believe that looking critically at anything can be a healthy way to see what can be improved. I’ve been meaning to write this post for a long time. In fact, I mapped the whole thing out almost a year ago, but it […]

Reception of the Dell Streak 7 could be described as “meh” at best. I went all-in on the device when I switched to T-Mobile at the beginning of the year, as, at the time, they did not have a mobile hotspot in their lineup. My time with the Streak 7 has ranged from feelings of being happily hipster (that feeling you get from rocking a device that the other techies will not use) and and being utterly frustrated. Most anyone who has kept up with the Android hacking crowd has […]

The wait is officially over. Today, Acer announced that the Acer Iconia Tab 100, the first 7” Honeycomb tablet, is available in the US today and will be coming to Canada next month. It haven’t yet found it officially listed for sale on the site of any major retailers (or even on Acer’s own site), but I’d expect it to start popping up later today We’ve actually known pretty much all there is to know about the Iconia A100 for some time now, other then when it would be launched. […]
