The wait is officially over. Today, Acer announced that the Acer Iconia Tab 100, the first 7 inch Honeycomb tablet, is available in the US today and will be coming to Canada next month. It haven’t yet found it officially listed for sale on the site of any major retailers (or even on Acer’s own site), but I’d expect it to start popping up later today We’ve actually known pretty much all there is to know about the Iconia A100 for some time now, other then when it would be […]

Having covered Meego news from many countries and attended Meego and Maemo conferences in three countries I would argue that the biggest contributing country is Germany. If it’s not #1, its up there in the top 5. So why have Nokia taken work done by these talented people, built a product on it and then decided not to selling to them? The same applies to the UK and US and many other countries. If something is going to be built on open source software, shouldn’t it be available to everyone? […]

According to our pal Jenn over at StreakSmart, the WiFi-only version of the Dell Streak 7 is set to receive an official update to Honeycomb next month. Details haven’t emerged yet, such as which specific version of Honeycomb will be used and whether or not it will be customized or left stock. Jenn says the the update is expected to greatly increase the battery life of the device. This is great news for Streak 7 owners, but it only applies to the WiFi-only version of the device. Apparently T-Mobile’s 3G/4G […]

At the end of June, we covered a rumor of a 7-inch TouchPad and now we’ve got information to corroborate that rumor, thanks to the FCC. CENS.com had released a press release which included this statement: As the world`s largest PC brand, HP is now in the tablet PC arena after introducing the 9.7-inch Touch Pad, has ordered from a supplier for 400,000 to 450,000 Touch Pad tablet PCs per month, and will sometime in August launch seven-inch tablet PCs. Inventec will supply HP these two tablet PC models. The […]

It looks like we’ve hit another 7 inch requirement with very few solutions. Any more of these requests and i’m going to go out there and make my own ultra mobile PC and sell it to you all! Mike contacted me to see if he could get some suggestions for an extremely mobile computer. It’s one that needs a full MS office suite and also needs to do duty as a support system in a light aircraft. Here’s the breakdown. ·As an IT manager I use the MS Office suite, […]

It would be nice if this was $300M of subsidy for manufacturers to seed the Ultrabook market, but it’s not. It’s $300M of cash reserved by Intel Capital for funding companies that work in and around Ultrabook technologies. In an event and press release today, Intel announced that over the next 3-4 years, $300 million would be available for investing in companies that are “building technologies that will help revolutionize the computing experience and morph today’s mobile computers into the next ‘must have’ device.” So while not exactly a pure […]

You might be wondering why Ultrabooks are going to cost $1000 or more when similar, slightly heavier designs are coming in at 75% of the cost. The Samsung Series 3 that’s just gone on sale gives us a good chance to do some comparisons and there’s two things we need to consider. 1) Market acceptance 2) Design, hardware, production costs If you take a look at the Samsung Series 3 [at Liliputing], you’ll see it’s running the Intel Core i5 2nd-gen CPu just like the Series 9. In the Series […]
