Over at Ritchie’s Room, Ritchie has gotten his hands on a retail version of the much anticipated Asus Eee Pad Slider and has given us a great preview of the sliding Honeycomb tablet. A few bits to take away from the reading: Sliding mechanism works well (kudos to Asus for this) Tilt of the screen cannot be adjusted (kudos revoked!) On the topic of the lack of mouse/trackpad: “proximity of the screen in comparison to the edge of the keyboard actually lends itself to retaining the touch interaction inch The […]

Here’s one more reason I’d be using Android if I couldn’t jailbreak my iPhone: The home button on my iPhone 4 has crapped out. Not entirely, but enough so that sometimes it doesn’t recognize when I press the button. For you non-iPhone users, the home button is the one you use every time you want to get back to the home screen (where all your apps are located), which means you use this button a lot. Double pressing the button is also used to get to the task-switcher which lets […]

If there’s one thing I love, it’s visualized statistics. Fortunately for me, and anyone else who shares that sentiment, Woot has a nice visual representation of the sales stats of its various products. And seeing how that newfangled HP TouchPad was on sale yesterday, you may be curious to see how it all went down. Let’s have a look: First sucker: jasonterhorst (first person to buy the TouchPad) Speed to first woot: 6m 54.030s (how long after the deal went up that they pulled the trigger) Last wooter to woot: […]

When I read Lukes request for mobile developer help I was impressed. This is Chippys Customer Challenge 2011 #3 I recently went to a local development meetup, and found myself content to use my phone during a ‘Hack Night’ to remotely access my desktop at home to type, and then browse using the phone’s browser. My goal would be to try to find a device that is ultra portable, but that would be a little more easy to do some of my regular development tasks on. It seems like there […]

I’ve had Honeycomb 3.1 on the Acer Iconia Tab A500 for a week now and as I did with the Compaq Airlife and Toshiba AC100 last year, looking for signs that a smartbook is finally happening. The signs are there, yes, but there’s still a long way to go. Check out a similar A500 productivity test by Jerry at Carrypad I predicted that 2011 would be the year we would finally see ARM/Android devices move into productivity scenarios and it looks like the ASUS Transformer has achieved that with many […]

Back at Google I/O 2011, Google announced something called Android @ Home, which seeks to allow a huge range of accessories and appliances to interact with Android devices. I want my vehicles to be Android @ Home accessible more than stuff in my home, and I’ll tell you why. Google did some brief demos on stage showing rudimentary integration between an exercise bicycle and a phone, and they also show how you might be able to automate your home by controlling lights, the thermostat, perhaps your coffee maker, etc. Watch […]
