Following a tweet by Dynamism today I took a look around to see if others were also advertising the Lenovo Ideapad U300s. Sure enough, we’ve got model details and prices available at a range of places in the USA and even an estimated shipping date. It won’t be long! The specifications match what we were told at IFA with two models being available.

According to a ‘paper’ [What is this, a Post-It on the Digitimes coffee machine?] Samsung is having an Ultrabook manufactured by Quanta. Not only that but they will produce a second Ultrabook in-house. Given that Samsung already have two devices that could be re-purposed as true Ultrabooks with a small hardware update (the anti-theft module) and perhaps a little price drop, this is strange news. See Samsung’s existing Ultrabook-like laptops. It could be as simple as a re-organisation of the production lines for the existing models and a small specification […]

We’ll see these events all over the place over the next few months as all the Ultrabooks filter into the market but given the pricing and specs of the UX21 and UX31, the Asus models could generate the most interest. Blogeee.net (link below) are highlighting a New York event for the 11th Oct

Up until today we’ve only been able to buy the Wifi version of the Acer Iconica A500 Android tablet here in Australia, but this info received today has announced the availability of the 3G version. It’s called the Acer Iconia Tab A501 Pro, and the only difference I can see from the A500 is the addition of 3G. Quad band by the looks of it with HSDPA+. Many of the recently released tablets such as the Acer Iconia Tab A100, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and the Toshiba Thrive have […]

We keep an updated list of Ultrabook alternatives here. Apart from the Apple MacBook Air which is built like an Ultrabook but sold like an Apple product, there are other interesting options that hover just outside the weight and features list of a true Ultrabook. You’ve got options with Core i3 or AMD E450 at way below the Ultrabook price level, options without SSD and even high-end options. If you can handle just 500 gm / 1lb more weight and are flexible on specs you can save hundreds. In this […]

Well how about that. Despite all the moaning by OEMs that they can’t reach the target prices, up pop some very interesting prices for the Asus UX21 and UX31. €799 for an 11.6″ Core i5 laptop in 1kg undercuts every option out there under 1.5kg. Given that Asus is unlikely to be commiting to a huge production run and that the specs and brand will trump Acer’s S3 offering, it could be that availability will be tight.

Back at the end of August, Verticool (makers of AndyPad) confirmed to us that the AndyPad would indeed have access to the Android Market. We thought it odd that Verticool didn’t appear to be advertising this fact on their AndyPad website and it seems there was good reason why. Access to the official Android Market is a boon for any Android device as it means the device can take advantage of some of the core Android applications, such as Gmail, YouTube, Maps, etc, and download hundreds of thousands more through […]

You go to the Intel Developer Forum to learn. You learn about Intel’s heading, new technology and knowledge from other attendees. Unlike trade-shows where you’ll be talking to marketing teams and show-floor assistance, you get to hear from expert engineers, product managers and technologists. Thanks to Intels support at IDF I was able to sit down for a one-to-one with Adam King, senior manager responsible for the Ultrabook sector and get some outstanding questions answered.
