Samsung Galaxy Note to Come with 4G LTE, on AT&T?

Posted on 21 September 2011

It was widely reported that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note would feature HSPA+, however, we’ve uncovered a video which may have let slip that the Galaxy Note will come equipped with 4G LTE, despite the official specs list not indicating as much. The specs section of the official press release from Samsung lists only “HSPA+ 21Mbps 850/900/1900/2100” and “EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900” while the press release wording says LTE, leading to confusion over which portion of the release was accurate. A rather unassuming video, found on Samsung’s IFA 2011 site, features YH Lee, SVP and […]

HTC Status – Beautiful Hardware

Posted on 21 September 2011

HTC kindly offered to lend us the HTC Status to have a look at and I was happy for the opportunity because it’s giving me some time to step back and look at Android on the lower-end of the phone spectrum. We tend to focus on the bleeding edge devices, and sometimes it’s easy to forget that not every person (in fact, the majority of people) don’t want to drop $299 on the latest phone every year. The HTC Status runs a cool $49 on contract which blows me away because this […]

HP Advertising ‘Ultrabook Computers’ – Next in Line to Launch?

Posted on 20 September 2011

This could be seen as an anti-Ultrabook stance (trying to sell standard PCs against the Ultrabook keyword) or preparation for an Ultrabook launch. HP are advertising against searches for ‘Ultrabook’ It looks pro-Ultrabook to me!

LG Xnote P220. Not quite an Ultrabook. Full Specs Now in the Ultrabook Database

Posted on 20 September 2011

After scouring the net for an update on the LG Xnote P220 finding and entering all the details and images into our database I’ve decided that the P220 isn’t an Ultrabook. But it’s awesome enough that it needs a close look, even if it’s just for the screen. The LG ‘Shuriken’ display [more info in this article] is the main feature here offering a 12.5” 1366×769 IPS screen in the same size as an 11.6” screen. it looks so impressive with the thin frame.

Appup App Store Coming to Ultrabooks

Posted on 19 September 2011

From the moment I saw the Samsung Series 7 slate.with the Appup logo on it at IFA I knew there was something going on. It makes complete sense to use the Ultrabook category as a way to expand and springboard the Appup app store and to add extra value to Ultrabooks. I reported on the value of it here. When I saw a Samsung Series 9 on the Appup booth at IDF last week I began to ask questions. Everyone kept their mouths shut. Now I know why. In a […]

Ritchie Reports: Asus UX31 Ultrabook Looking Good!

Posted on 19 September 2011

Here’s what I hope will be the start of a series of posts on the Asus UX31 Ultrabook from Ritchies Room. Ritchie has some time with th UX31 so if you’ve got questions, head on over and ask. Of all the Ultrabooks, the UX21 and UX31 have the most striking design and compared to the others it feels a touch more solid all-round. Ritchie praises its rigidity. The UX31 has a full-size SD (HC or XC?) port and a USB 3.0 port making it useful for photo and video editing […]

Intel’s Next-Gen Atom ‘Clover Trail’ Tablet Running Windows 8 (Video)

Posted on 19 September 2011

Intel was mostly hush hush about their upcoming Clover Trail platform, focusing instead on Medfield and Cedar Trail, but careful attention to some of the technical sessions at IDF last weak showed that this latest update to Atom is planned for 2012. Chippy caught a video of an early prototype of Clover Trail running Windows 8 which you can see at the bottom of this post. Details are sparse but Intel has told us that the micro-architecture has been completely redesigned (this could mean a number of things, but you can bet […]

WiDi – Important Value for Tablets, Netbooks and Ultrabooks

Posted on 19 September 2011

I believe Intel Wireless Display (also known as Wi-Di) could be one of the best ‘value-add’ technologies Intel has implemented for years. Not because of any technical skill (it’s an extension of the Wi-Fi Direct ‘soft AP’ standard implemented in their Centrino network cards and Core processors) but because it adds capability to the PC platform that makes real sense and doesn’t require any extra interfaces or radios. Wireless display is going to be something that, once you’ve used it, you probably won’t wouldn’t want to lose. Expect to see […]
