Due to a broken SD card reader on my laptop, we weren’t able to photos of Intel’s Medfield-based Honeycomb tablet out immediately. Now, USB SD adapter in hand, you can see the goods: It’s important to remember that this is just a reference design. Intel calls it Red Ridge and its predecessor is an older reference design called Green Ridge which is Oaktrail-based (also running Honeycomb on x86). These devices are made by Intel and sent to ODM’s to let them see what kind of hardware is possible with the given platform. […]

It’s a strange time to be showing next-generation Ultrabooks when the first gen aren’t available but there they were at the Ultrabook showcaseat IDF today. Next generation Ultrabooks will run on Ivy Bridge, the 3rd Generation of the Core processor which will bring some power savings and, we suspect, cost reductions. None of the prototypes looked overly impressive and there’s no noticeable difference in size or weight so clearly the deal will be in the details. We do wonder how many customers will delve that deep. Brand and pricing will […]

So far we’ve seen 5 official Ultrabook launches but there are obviously big names missing. Dell, MSI, HP, LG and more. It’s possible though that Ultrabooks will launch from these manufacturers soon because Intel expects 9 or more devices to launch across the world by the end of the year. This video, made at IDF today, reveals the information. Unfortunately there were no new Ultrabook products on the Ultrabook booth today although we may see something ib the technology showcase later today. Stay tuned for our reports from that after […]

In addition to being the first tablet to run native Android Honeycomb on Intel, the Medfield-based tablet that Intel has shown briefly is the first Honeycomb to include NFC. They didn’t officially announce this yet (I just happened to catch the faint logo on the back of the device while shooting it as you can see above). I’m willing to bet that this is intended to be used with the ‘Compute Continuum’, a just announced effort by Intel and partners to get devices to work better together, regardless of platform […]

Big news out of IDF today. Intel and Android are finally getting cozy. Intel has been working for a long time to compete in the phone and tablet world which is currently ruled by ARM architecture, but has so far been unsuccessful. At the IDF 2011 keynote just a few minutes ago, Google’s Andy Rubin stepped on stage to announce that Google will be fully optimizing and supporting Android on Intel architecture at every stage of the hardware (meaning we’re not talking about virtualization, but full blown native Android running on Intel architecture). Intel is […]

No details. No name. Intel just showed us a tablet running Honeycomb at the main keynote of the Intel Developer Forum this morning. All they said was that it was running on Medfield. Looks like Android is becoming the focus for Intel tablets. We’re in the keynote now and will try and bring you more soon.
