This time tomorrow i’ll be arriving in San Francisco for the Intel Developer Forum Having been for the last 3 years I can tell you it’s a very important conference. Not only do you get to see devices but you get to meet Intel experts, hear about the latest technoliges in great detail, meet Intel’s customers and partners and discuss topics with other like-minded people. I’m not exagerating when I say that for the Ultrabook market, this is the most important event of the year. Products will turn up at […]

While this might sound confusing to those who know that Google TV already runs an Intel-optimised Android build, it does make sense. After querying the reason myself, it seems clear now that this could be an open source version of Gingerbread for Atom that third parties can use in their products. This brings the possibility of Oaktrail tablets that run a nicely optimized and extended battery life Android OS. What would be very interesting would be if Intel has got blanket approval for Google applications. It’s unlikely but would be […]

At IFA last week I took the brave step of leaving my PC at home. For someone whos job it is to create content for websites and YouTube it wasn’t something that was easy to achieve but over the last year I’ve been getting more and more comfortable with my Galaxy Tab and Nokia N8 as an unbeatable combination for when I’m mobile. I sacrifice a bit of quality to improved battery life, speed and sharing. It worked out well and I’m doing it again next we at the Intel […]

Update. We’ve just heard that Intel gave out 5000 Samsung Series 7 Tablets at BUILD. We were right! Many are predicting that an ARM-based Windows 8 tablet will be shown to developers at the Microsoft BUILD event next week. I’m sure it will. CNET is telling us, however, that there will be an Intel tablet running Windows 8. This could be huge opportunity for Intel but it comes with a huge risk. If either Windows 8 fails to impress or the device is built on hardware that doesn’t seriously outperform […]

Dell, HP, Fujitsu, MSI, Samsung, Packard Bell, Sony. There are still a number of laptop manufacturers that haven’t announced Ultrabooks but at next weeks Intel Developer Forum there’s something happening that could reveal devices and add to the list. Aside from an Ultrabook-focused keynote and a number of Ultrabook technical sessions, there’s an Ultrabook showcase that could be the perfect place to highlight new developments. We’ve seen it in previous years with netbook and MIDs and we don’t expect the Ultrabook Showcase to be any different. There are very few […]

Expected to be available later this month, the Acer Aspire S3 is likely to be one of the lower cost Ultrabooks and if the news from Hong Kong and Finland is anything to go by, one of the first to hit the market.

I have a feeling that I’ll be writing quite a few of these types of articles. The HP Dm1 is a superb laptop but it isn’t an Ultrabook. For a starting price of $399 you get a lot for your money. Great graphics performance, good battery life and 1080p video hardware. The problem is that the CPU is relatively weak; actually as powerful as a dual-core netbook so when it comess to pushing the Dm1 like a desktop, it disappoints. Unpacking large zip files, batch processing images can be a […]

The Motorola Droid Bionic was announced 9 months ago at CES 2011, but it has finally arrived was it worth the wait? As you can see, the design has changed since the initial announcement and it now looks much like a keyboardless Droid 3. That’s only on the visual end of things though. Spec wise, the Droid Bionic is almost exactly like the Motorola Atrix: Droid Bionic Atrix OS Android 2.3.4 Android 2.3.4 Processor 1GHz Dual-Core 1GHz Dual-Core RAM 1GB 512MB Screen 4.3 inch @ 960×540 4 inch @ 960×540 […]
