Ultrabook Shipping numbers Lower Than Expected.

Posted on 31 October 2011

With late launches, a difficult economy and a lack of consumer awareness it would be no surprise if someone reported low shipping numbers. That report comes via Digitimes today. Acer and Asus are reported to have shipped around 100k units each which, according to Digitimes data, is about 50% of expected shipment figures. It’s somewhat difficult to get a handle on the number as availability is still tight across many regions. In Europe, for example, you’ll be lucky to find any Ultrabooks available for delivery. Is the low shipment number […]

The Argument For Ultrabooks

Posted on 31 October 2011

In this article I put a case forward for the Ultrabook. It follows a similar article in which I put forward an argument against the Ultrabook. You can’t say we’re not assessing all angles on Utrabooknews! The Ultrabook project, a three-stage plan by Intel to change they way that laptops are designed and manufactured, is now producing its first products and already we’re seeing combinations of weight, price and power that have never been seen in the industry before; Truly ground-breaking notebooks. Early reviews have been very good and despite the […]

Samsung Galaxy Note Reviewed — Is the Ink Worth the Size?

Posted on 29 October 2011

The Samsung Galaxy Note may still be up in the air for a US release, but the lucky devils over at Engadget got their hands on the stylus equipped phone for review. Toward the end of the review the reviewer, Zach Honig, notes that “the Galaxy Note is one of those devices that you’ll either completely love or totally hate.” I’m not sure how true this is though. Even though I might despise the massive 5.3″ screen because of single-handed-use ergonomic issues, the compromise might be worth it for the increasingly appealing […]

XPPhone V2 Coming With Intel Inside. Enjoy the Press Release

Posted on 27 October 2011

It looks like the XPPhone guys are at it again with their ultra-converged solutions. This time a 4.8″ mini slate ‘phone’ running on a 1.6Ghz Atom platform. Not much information is given in the press release regarding specifications but given that all the Images are renders, this is likely to be something for 2012, and a rather niche market given that the weight and active standby time on this ‘phone’ is going to be restrictive. We doubt its a Medfield phone but we’ll keep an eye on this one as […]

The Argument Against Ultrabooks

Posted on 27 October 2011

In this article I’ll be taking a different stance and presenting an argument against Ultrabooks. Why would a pro-Ultrabook web site and a pro-Ultrabook author do this? Simply because I want you readers, and myself, to get a better perspective on the discussion going on around Ultrabooks. All opinions are valid and to make a decision, you need both sides of the story. The more discussion we have, the more we understand. Fingers crossed that Intel and a few OEDs and OEMs read this too because it’s exactly what they […]

iOS 5 Pro? 12 More Tips/Tricks You Probably Don’t Know

Posted on 27 October 2011

iOS 5 just launched earlier this month, and based on the popularity of my article the other week, which focused on actual honest-to-goodness iOS 5 tips and tricks beyond the painfully obvious “you can send iMessages!” variety, I’ve created a new list with an additional 12 obscure tips/tricks. Again, a few of these are not iOS 5 exclusive, but most are. If you’re a brand new iPhone 4S user and didn’t know any of these, don’t fret… these are pro tips. My goal here is to have provided experienced iOS users […]

Samsung Series 7 Slate is now the Samsung XE700. Pricing Drops, Pre Order Available. (US, EU)

Posted on 26 October 2011

I love the Samsung Series 7 Slate PC, or should I say the Samsung EX700. It’s a work of amazing engineering and combines power, features, style and weight to make the first tablet PC I’ve really thought about buying. Core i5 performance in 860gm is something that reminds me of the top quality engineering that went into the Samsung Q1 Ultra Premium. It’s a true hot-desking device with mobility at its heart and when Windows 8 comes along, it will shine even brighter….unless you want a keyboard attached of course. […]

Ocosmos OCS9 Windows 7 Slate, Get $50-off from Dynamism [video]

Posted on 26 October 2011

The elusive company is back with the Ocosmos OCS9 — Ocosmos has tantalized us with awesome ultra mobile PC concepts for years, but the devices have always turned to vaporware seemingly just prior to release. Well, it seems Ocosmos is at it again, but this time, we’re certain that they’ll actually be bringing a product to market, thanks to the folks at Dynamism. Surprisingly, Ocosmos actually showed up at last month’s IDF, only after Chippy, Avram Piltch (of LaptopMag), and I chatted about how unlikely it would be! The Ocosmos OCS9 was on […]
