We reported last week that the Acer Aspire S3 had turned up for pre-order in Italy at €799. As expected, it’s Aspire S3 available for order in other countries too and for those of you that like to order through Amazon, it’s now available in the German and Italian stores. Again the price in €799 which undercuts the cheapest Apple MacBook Air model by at least €40 but there’s still no availability info. One thing we found out this week that there are no Ethernet or VGA ports on the […]

One of the most annoying things about using iOS or Android for me is that I never really know which IM networks I’m signed into because there’s no global place to set my availability. Today we’ve got Skype, AIM, Facebook, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Chat, and plenty more. It’s not that we want to be spread across so many instant messaging protocols, but the reality is that we want to talk to our friends and they’re not always on the same network. Between my time with Nokia’s beautiful N810 and […]

Our friends at Netbooknews have some information about Gigabyte Ultrabooks. Gigabyte have always been quite the innovator when it comes to laptops. They’ve consistently included features that you don’t find on other devices and I can personally vouch for the quality having enjoyed a Gigabyte Touchnote for 2 years. I’ll be analysing their entry into the Ultrabook market very closely as a result of that. Netbooknews in Germany are telling us that Gigabyte will enter the Ultrabook market with Ivy Bridge-based devices which means mid-2012 on the 22-nm processor with […]

We’ve asked Intel about this before and they were rather coy about giving us an answer. If Ultrabooks take-over where tablets can’t reach and if Ultrabooks, or at least laptops running the Core CPU contain the power to do everything the average user wants, why would customers bother upgrading the old box in the corner? “It’s possible” was the only answer we got at IDF last month but PCR-Online got a more detailed answer.

The HTC Flyer was reportedly on sale today at Best Buy for a mere $99. This would have been an excellent price for the WiFi-only version of the HTC Flyer as the 3G variant began retailing at a whopping $529. I was immediately suspicious to see that the $99 price tag wasn’t an on-contract price, and that suspicion appears to be warranted. According to Droid life, the drop to $99 was an error in Best Buy’s pricing system, and it will be fixed shortly. Best Buy hasn’t said whether or not they’ll be honoring some of […]

I don’t intend to cover all the country launch dates of all the Ultrabooks here on Ultrabooknews but some will be important enough to report. Like this one – the first official announcement of price and availability in Europe pf the Acer Aspire S3. From this news you’ll get a good idea of price and availability across the whole of Europe. We’re looking at an initial availability of one Acer Aspire S3 model on 20th October. It’s a Core i5 version (i5-2467M) at 1.6 Ghz with the hybrid SSD+HDD (320GB […]

Prediction: 9 out of 10 commenters around the web will accuse the Samsung Series 7 Slate as being ridiculously over-priced. Personally I think its the best Tablet PC I’ve ever had my hands on and in my opinion it’s well worth the money that is being asked. Liliputing have details. In 2012 the Series 7 will mature with Windows 8 into one of the most multi-scenario high dynamic range computers there is. Clearly I’m not disguising the fact that I want one! I probably don’t need to explain to you […]
