I’m at the Mobile World Congress in Spain this week and although I’ve been covering a lot of phone and tablet news (over at Carrypad.com) I’ve also been keeping an eye open for Ultrabook news. I didn’t have to look far because when Intel talks about one silicon product, it’s now inextricably linked with the others via the ‘Compute Continuum’ which isn’t just a keynote dream any more, it’s a real project to mesh devices from various parts of Intel’s product range.

Samsung was the fist to show that Android could succeed on a tablet when they launched the infamous original Galaxy Tab back in October of 2010. This was a 7″ device and was devised long before the tablet-specific Android 3.0 Honeycomb build was available. Despite relying on a customized version of Android which was meant for phones, the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 succeed and paved the way for future Android tablets. Eager to run with that success, and now armed with the tablet-oriented Honeycomb, Samsung began to add various […]

Asus has gone ahead and revealed the Transformer Pad Infinity (700 series), their latest and most premium tablet to date, at MWC 2012. The Transformer Infinity’s stand-out feature is a 10.1″ full HD 1920×1200 Super IPS+ display which uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2 for added scratch resistance and protection against breakage. The chassis (less the dockable keyboard) is a mere 8.5mm thick. At MWC, Nokia has announced the 808 PureView, a Symbian powered phone with a massive 41MP camera. It’s been said in the past, ‘never judge a camera by its megapixels’, but here we might have to make an exception.

He took a brief respite from the show to bring us a quick audiocast update with a special guest… jkk mobile! If you’ve followed our pal jkk, you’ll know he’s been somewhat absent from the blogging scene lately. However, given his presence at MWC and his site now showing signs of activity, perhaps 2012 will denote the return of the jkk! MWC day3 quickcast with @jkkmobile (mp3) […]

At MWC today Microsoft is showing off the latest updates to Windows 8 since the Developer Preview. The company is now offering a Windows 8 Consumer Preview, and says that there have been over 100,000 changes since the dev preview. You can find the Windows 8 Consumer Preview download right here. Microsoft hopes that Windows 8 will be able to bridge the gap between desktop, laptop, and tablet computers. Personally, I would have liked to see Microsoft scaled Windows Phone 7 up rather than Windows 8 down to fit onto tablets. I’ve experienced […]

Right on cue with recent reports from “insiders” and “people familiar with the matter”, Apple has gone ahead and sent out invitations to media outlets announcing a March 7th media event where the company will unveil the iPad 3. Of course Apple had to announce it in the middle of one of the largest annual mobile tech trade shows, Mobile World Congres, which is going on right this very moment in Barcelona. Most major TV news outlets in the US are likely to be entirely unaware of the event, but I’m willing to bet […]
