For the last few weeks photos of purported prototype iPad 3 displays were floating around the web. Now, MacRumors actually got their hands on one and actually examined it under a microscope to confirm the resolution. Their findings show pretty conclusively that the screen has twice the pixel density as the screen on the iPad and iPad 2: The original iPad and iPad 2 both have a 9.7″ 1024×768 IPS display with a total of 786,432 pixels at 130.61 PPI. At twice the density, the screen that MacRumors got their hands […]

This image from TechRepublic speaks a thousand words. Just look how small the motherboard is. Look how huge the battery is in comparison to the motherboard. Look at the lack of ancillary components. Check out the heat-pipe. This is an Ultrabook exposed and it shows amazing integration.

It’s not an Ultrabook (Samsung say it doesn’t hit pricing targets but the truth is that it’s missing a security subsystem and of course, Samsung want to position this away from the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabooks) but it’s a hot item and one that many will want, even though the pricing is way up there. $1399 for a 13”-er and $1499 for a 15”-er is not exactly small change. Both the 900X3B (13.3”) and 900X4B (15”) are up for pre-order.

Apple now have a series of patents for the MacBook Air ‘ornamental design’ and we’re wondering just how much this could impact Ultrabook design in the future. When you see approvals for layouts such as the one below, you have to wonder! Yes, you’re looking at a featureless rectangle that was approved two days ago as Patent US D654072.

Good news for Acer A500 owners today and a relief to those that are worried about the ‘Android Update Alliance.’ There will be an ICS update coming soon. There were already a few pointers that it would happen but nothing I could have put any trust in. This message from ACER USA, makes it clear. To all Acer Iconia Tab A500 and A100 users, please expect an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in mid-April! Thank you for your patience. There are ICS upgrade messages going out in Australia too. April feels […]

Chrome Beta for Android phones and tablets was launched just last week by Google. Unfortunately, it’s restricted to Android 4.0 and beyond, which means in all likelihood, only about 1% of you currently have access to it. Although the default Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich browser is Chrome-like in many ways, the Chrome Beta brings the Chrome aesthetic to the Android platform along with an emphasis on synchronization and a big boost to web-standards compatibility. In addition to syncing your bookmarks from desktop to mobile and back, Chrome for Android also […]

In tracking some availability and prices this morning I found that the Acer Aspire S3 price has dropped from $999 to $799, a 20% drop, at Amazon in the USA. The Acer S3 tested out well when we reviewed it and although it’s not the top of the class, there are no show-stoppers and, for the price, you’re getting a full Core i5 solution unlike the Core i3-based Toshiba Z835 that pops up at $799 now and again.
