Acer just launched an 11.6” ‘ultra-thin’ notebook that might interest some looking for Ultrabook alternatives. Pricing starts at €499 and there are options for Nvidia discreet graphics (GT640M,) but only in the larger 14 and 15” versions. The 11.6” version is going to be targeted at two markets. The netbook market will receive a low-cost ‘Aspire One’ version of this with Pentium or Celeron CPUs (no Atom version) but there will be a V5 version with Core CPUs. We’ve just been handed the press kit for the CeBIT press conference…. [This post updating…] Acer are launching two Acer Timeline models. The M3 is a two-spindle 15” Ultrabook, the M5 a 14” Ultrabook. Acer are coming through on their plan to push through more Ultrabooks this year.

I’m just about to throw the laptop into my bag and head out to Day 1 of CeBIT where I’ve got a series of Ultrabook rendezvous on the agenda. At 10am we’ll be seeing Acer in a press conference. Expect some more information about the Acer S5. As it’s likely to be an Ivy Bridge based device we’re not expecting too much detail at this stage but maybe we’ll get a chance to put the USB stick in for some testing! Intel didn’t hold back on pulling together an Ultrabook stage show at CeBIT this week. In a pre-opening walk-about we found a hall area packed with every Ultrabook that’s available in Europe right now.

The Asus PadFone is one of the most unique devices soon to be hitting the Android market. The PadFone can exist in three different states — as just the phone itself, as a tablet (by putting the phone into the tablet dock), and as a smartbook (by attaching the keyboard to the tablet). Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ties this all together by providing a UI that scales between each of these form-factors. Update: 9th May 2012. The 14″ Ultrabook will be the Lifebook U772 We’re at the Fujitsu Press conference on Day 0 of CeBIT and we’ve just been handed a flyer showing two new Ultrabooks. We’re about to see the real deal in a minute….

We have the LG Spectrum on hand at HQ to give you review coverage of this huge 4.5″ phone. First thing first, here’s the unboxing and overview: The LG Spectrum is one of the last big releases from LG before the company switches up the styling of their devices to something they’re calling ‘L-style’. Hopefully it will be an improvement, as the LG Spectrum feels a big bulky even if it is relatively thin.

We stumbled across a new Ultrabook on Day 0 (set-up day) of CeBIT in Germany. This is the Gigabyte U2442 U/V Ultra Pro Book from gigabyte that’s launching at CeBIT this week. Based on the fact that it was taken off the booth after we took the pics and video, below, it looks like it’s not happening today! There are some very interesting specs to consider here.
