We wrote recently about a ground-breaking low price for the Acer Aspire M3 Ultrabook. At that point we mentioned that the device would be delivered with a Core i3 CPU. We got word today that that not only is this model packing a non-Turbo Core i3 but it’s also devoid of any discrete graphics. Be careful when you reach for the €599 version in Europe. Here’s the PR we got from Acer Germany. It may not apply to other countries.

While the rest of the world waits for confirmation of specs and availability, the guys down under have already reviewed the Toshiba U840 Ultrabook. It’s a product that won’t be confused with the Toshiba Z830 but there are questions to be asked about the price. The U840 appears to be built for the mainstream market and yet the price is higher than the Z830. We hope that’s just early pricing that will drop quickly.

Shown at CES and presented as ‘back to school’ Ultrabook solutions, the Lenovo U310 and Lenovo U410 were never going to have the best specification list but at a target price of $699 with Ivy Bridge they are definitely worth watching. A few images and a user manual has appeared at the FCC clearing-house which gives us confidence they they are preparing for launch. We’ve gleaned a few more specifications too.

I’ve been to a number of Intel Developer Forums over the years and can tell you that it’s the most important event on my calendar. Not only do you get to see new products launched and have the ability to report about the news coming out of the event but you get to answer deep technical questions and talk to very experienced engineers. You come away with not only an idea about what’s launching today but, if you read between the lines, you can work out what’s going to happen […]

After seeing that US online prices for high-end Ultrabooks have dropped 22% from the original launch prices, it’s good to see other countries showing similar price drops. This Amazon.co.uk offer on a Toshiba Satellite Z830 is particularly interesting. £698.80 is 22% below list price! [US Readers – This is a 120% consumer price that includes sales tax. Business buyers pay around £580] I’m a Z830 user myself so I can vouch for this Ultrabook. You’ve got all the ports you need, a great SSD (ignore the reports of poor write […]

Intel’s vision for Ultrabooks is to bring consumers high performance laptop computing in a sleek package with good battery life. So far we’ve seen just that, but the price component is important as well. Intel’s target price for Ultrabooks is around $1000. Thus far, the distribution of prices has been somewhat significant. Here I’m going to do a quick survey of Ultrabook prices so that we can follow the overall pricing of the category and see how it changes over time. I’ll also be looking to see how the prices […]

Update: It wasn’t too difficult to spot the 01.04 on this right? Sony seems to have done very well with the joke though which was probably set up by a PR company. Search for a Sony Ultrabook on Google now and you’re likely to see the Series Q listed. I suspect this is just the start of a Sony Vaio Q Ultrabook campaign. Just how do Sony manage to do this every time? They led the way with their high-powered handheld UX-series UMPCs and it looks like they’re doing it […]

Techradar, one of the mainstream tech sites in the UK, has had enough time with the Novatech nFinity 2367 to put out an early review. There’s nothing here to get too excited about if you’ve been reading other Ultrabook reviews but an SSD-based laptop for this price is certainly worth considering, ultrabook or not. The nFinity 2367 is clearly not the most attractive Ultrabook, weighs a little more and has cut a few corners on the specs to get to the price but there’s an SSD on offer here along […]
