HP was relatively coy when it came to showing off photos of the enterprise-focused Folio 9470m that it announced just the other day. However, here at Ultrabooks, we dig deep through the news to bring you the best. In addition to tracking down the full specs we’ve now got a gallery full of high-res photos of the Folio 9470m for you — the photos have revealed an additional port not mentioned in the official spec sheet.
If you missed it yesterday, the HP Folio 9470m is HP’s enterprise-focused Ultrabook. This is a refresh of HP’s very first Ultrabook, the Folio 13, and it brings things up to speed with Intel’s third-generation Ivy Bridge processor. It has a number of excellent features for business folks including a removable battery, secondary battery slot, docking slot, full ethernet/LAN port, integrated 3G/4G options, and it belongs to HP’s Global Series program which allows businesses to purchase the Folio 9470m in standardized configurations across 151 countries. If you’re looking for full specs and features, see our coverage from yesterday.
The extra port that we didn’t know about without the photos is an SC (SmartCard) slot on the left side. It may be optional (as SC slots aren’t exactly a mainstream necessity), as is a biometric fingerprint scanner which is not show in any of the photos. Still no price for the Folio 9470m, but HP says that it will be launching come October.
I like the bold boxy design, looks powerful like it’s about to get real work done.
Unlike say, tablets, which to this point are nothing but fluffed up toys.
Smart Card slots are required for the HUGE DoD/ US Govt Federal “group buys” via the HSPD-12/CAC/PIV regulations. Many large multinationals are requiring 2-factor authentication for remote access so integrated smart card readers ARE quickly becoming a requirement at some of HP’s largest customers.
