Apparently not content with being one-upped by its smaller sibling, the HP Envy 6 Ultrabook is now showing its face (and price tag) on HP’s Australian website. We’ve unfortunately confirmed a large (15.6″) but low resolution 1366×768 screen, and there seems to be an indication that the Envy 6 is lacking the discrete GPU that has been confirmed in the Envy 4, though we’re keeping our fingers crossed that this is incorrect!

The HP Envy 4 and Envy 6 are two new Ultrabook additions to the Envy series and it looks like they’ll be available for purchase soon. We were able to confirm initial leaked reports of the HP Envy 4 and Envy 6 last week by tracking down some leaked official documentation, and just recently the Envy 4 has sprung up for sale on HP’s Chinese site, giving us an indication of price and a confirmation of the leaked specs.

As Ultrabooks move to mainstream, pricing becomes critical. Materials become less critical. Expect more plastic and stamped metal… In a press event on Wednesday, Intel Taiwan’s country manager Jason Chen said that he expects Ultrabooks to reach $599 although the mainstream price is more likely to be $699. The price point will only be reached by the use of cheaper materials reports Focus Taiwan.

It looks like Wortmann, a local brand in Germany, are following suit with Novatech, a local brand in the UK (maybe there’s a company connection?) by offering a low-cost no-frills Ultrabook. The Wortmann Terra Mobile 1450 is currently available at a launch price of 678 Euro, it matches some of the lowest street prices for Ultrabooks in the region, and offers a full 128GB SSD and a 58.5Wh battery – both worth having in your Ultrabook!

Sony has officially announced two Ultrabooks this morning. The T11, an 11.6” Ultrabook and the T13 13.3” Ultrabook are based on Sandy Bridge platforms which will surprise many but given that these devices will effectively be ‘budget’ ultrathins for the company, it’s not surprising. Update: Both Ultrabooks now in the database. Sony T11 Sony T13. An official press release is up for the T13 on the Sony UK page but Slashgear are also reporting on the T11. A few weeks ago I wrote down what I thought was the most likely timeline for 2nd-gen Ultrabooks, just a few days before a leak pointed at a June 5th launch. Taking the new information into account I’ve updated the timeline for Ultrabook activities. If I get more information I’ll update again. Again, the timeline is my estimation based on information and experience and I’m publishing it to help those that are making plans to buy both 1st and 2nd-gen Ultrabooks in the Q3-Q4 2012 timeframe. 2nd-gen (Ivy Bridge) Ultrabook […]
