Today Vizio is making their two new Ultrabooks available for pre-order, this move marks Vizio’s first jump into the PC space. Vizio is a maker of HDTVs first and foremost, but they’ve recently taken a shot at the tablet market and now they’re trying their hand in the PC world. The company is offering an Ivy Bridge Ultrabook which comes in 14″ or 15.6″ variant as well as a full-sized laptop and an all-in-one desktop. We’re of course most interested in the Ultrabooks, step inside for a rundown.

Thanks to all that turned up for the live review yesterday evening. We spent 2hrs testing the Samsung Series 9 15” and got some good work done. We’ve found some good stuff, and some not so good stuff. Videos and summary below.

Acer’s new Aspire S5 Ultrabook will soon be available. Acer today announced availability of the S5 in the U.S. and Canada starting the last week in June. Furthermore, Acer’s first Ultrabook, the Aspire S3, has received a refresh with Ivy Bridge and an even lower starting price. The S3 will ship starting next week.

An analysis of the new MacBook Pro with retina dispay by AnandTech reveals that, despite being lower resolution, the Zenbook Prime UX21A’s 1080p IPS display still holds its own in the contrast ration department.

While Monday’s big news was definitely Apple’s new MacBook Pro with retina display, a thin and powerful new Ultrabook alternative, Apple also refreshed the even lighter and thinner MacBook Air with Ivy Bridge and a few other goodies.

We’ve just got back from the Samsung HQ in Germany with a 15” Series 9 Ultrabook under our arms. It’s a stunning bit of kit and after just an hour of testing on the train back the feeling is already very positive. The screen, keyboard, styling and battery life and speed are all looking good. Of course, more testing needs to be done and we’ll be working on that over the next week so stay with us. To kick things off we’ve got an overview video for you.

Today at Apple’s annual World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) the company refreshed it’s lineup of laptop computers. The company also introduced a brand new addition to the lineup which will surely set the performance and feature bar for future Ultrabooks. Apple annoyingly is calling this the ‘Macbook Pro with retina display’, despite that it is smaller, lighter, and uses a totally different chassis than the Macbook Pro (it’s almost as thin as the MacBook Air, actually).
