John Taylor, Director of Global Product Marketing at AMD, just published an official post over at the AMD blog entitled: ‘Does an Ultrabook™ by any other name smell as sweet?’ In it, Taylor takes issue with Intel’s Ultrabook campaign and wishes that Intel would let OEMs alone to make their own decisions.

While it might be easy, thanks to a deluge of exciting new Ultrabooks, to forget about what many of us looking forward to just yesterday, Asus has finally put up official product pages for the Zenbook Prime UX21A and UX31A. We’re likely to see both of these next-generation Ultrabooks on sale in the very near future. The Zenbook microsite has been updated as well, and AnandTech has a teardown of the UX21A for anyone interested in the internals.

And just like that, inside 12 hours, the Ultrabook market was turned on its head. I’m looking back at the HP Envy 6t that we put in the database this morning and thinking wow!, I wonder if anyone’s going to buy an Ultrabook before Windows 8 launches. What happened at Computex today was exciting, but a little worrying. Hopefully we’ll be back to current-day Ultrabooks on Day 1 at Computex.

Jonney Shih is getting somewhat of a name for himself in tech PR circles. He comes across as honest, likable, passionate and funny and his presentation of the ASUS TaiChi was as good as any of his stage appearances. We wish we had been there! The presentation wasn’t without it’s problems, but that’s what we like about them. It’s worth a look. We’ve added it to a playlist below where you’ll be able to watch a number of ASUS TaiChi videos from Computex today. What do you think about the […]

Finally we move away from Windows 8 Ultrabooks launching at Computex and get to a good ‘old’ regular Ultrabook that’s likely to be available soon. The ASUS S-Series Ultrabooks are 14 and 15 inch with an optical disk drive. This one is aimed at productivity and multimedia. Gamers take note of the Nvidia GT630M and Altec Lansing speakers. Thickness:21mm.

TechinStyle, who I believe is an ASUS project, have an exclusive first look at the ASUS TaiChi. The video is worth watching for details and a great demo of the screens, both HD and IPS. USB3.0 x2, combo 3.5 audio jack, micro HDMI, mini display port connectors, and a host of table sensors. Note that the power, screen and rotation lock are also mirrored as keys on the keyboard.

We managed to uncover information about the MSI S20 slider earlier today. We’ve just uncovered the first video of it too! The video reveals USB3.0, 10-point multi-touch, a weight of “less that 2KG”, thickness of less than 1 inch and Bluetooth 4.

Not only have ASUS gone and created another interesting design with the TaiChi, they’ve worked their magic on a a device called the ASUS Transformer Book. It’s an Ultrabook at heart but it has a detachable screen. Clearly a device for Q4 and WIndows 8 but, wow! According to a first look post at TechinStyle, we’re looking at a Core i3/5/7 ‘notebook’ with Nvidia discreet graphics, 4GB of RAM, USB3.0, SSD and an HDD option. Surely this is an Ultrabook?
