Launched alongside the Acer Aspire S7 this morning was the Acer Iconia Tab W510. It’s not an Ultrabook at all but it’s not an Android Transformer either and as we look forward, there’s an interesting trade-off that mobile Ultrabook fans will have to think about. The Acer W510 offers a lightweight detachable tablet, up to 18 hours of battery life (docked) and a 3G/4G option. It’s running on the future Intel Atom-based Clover Trail platform. Sony’s most premium ultraportable, the VAIO Z, has finally been refreshed with Ivy Bridge processors. We watched over the last few weeks as VAIO Z stocks dwindled and Sony offered deals to get rid of the previous models. Now Sony is offering Intel’s latest Core i5 or Core i7 processors in the VAIO Z which feature the improved HD 4000 integrated graphics.

Even though we blew the lid off of the Sony’s first official entry into the Ultrabook space a few weeks ago thanks to Sony EU, Sony US has been completely silent about the VAIO T series… until now. The VAIO T launches in the US as one of the first Ivy Bridge Ultrabooks, and also at a very respectable price: $769.

The Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabooks have just been revealed in Taipei at one of the first press events. The 11.6 and 13.3″ Ultrabooks will offer premium features and long battery life. Reports coming out of Computex are saying 9hrs and 12hrs for the 11.6″ and 13.3″ versions respectively.

Last year I tipped Intel to partner with BlueStacks to bring monetized Android apps to Windows via Appup. That didn’t happen but a similar set-up is about to happen with ASUS who will deliver the Bluestacks application and supply applications through their own ASUS@Vibe application channel.

Looking for a guide price for Thunderbolt docks that might fit with that Acer S5? The Matrox DS1 thunderbolt docking station has just been announced. Breaking out a DVI port, one USB3.0, 2x USB2.0 a Gig-Ethernet port and audio interfaces, it will certainly help reduce clutter. But for $249 is it worth it?
