It’s downloading and installing as I write this. The new firmware for the Nokia N8 (and others) not only includes a new browser but also ‘new imaging apps.’ This update again brings new features to Symbian smartphones, for example: – a new browser with HTML5 web apps support, a new set of homescreen widgets, and the previously released Microsoft Office Mobile App and Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 in one package. – Nokia N8 will have some extra apps for imaging I’ll let you know what I find and do some […]

When a new product category comes to Medion, you know it’s gone mainstream. Medion, a Lenovo company, is headquartered in Germany and focuses on good value technology, some of which is exclusively sold through large retailers such as Aldi. Netbooks broke into Aldi in 2008 where 20,000 boxes could be shifted in a matter of hours. Ultrabooks could do the same. Big customers like Aldi are big business for Medion, but only when the time is right. The Medion Akoya S4211 could mean that the time is right.

We’ve seen most of what there is to see regarding Asus’ upcoming S46 and S56 Ultrabooks except for one important piece of information: the release date. We caught a glimpse of the units at Computex back in June and earlier in August Asus officially announced them. Now they inch closer to market as Asus has revealed them on their website including a rundown of official specs. While it was once thought that the new Ultrabooks would include discrete graphics by default, the official specs indicate that an integrated graphics variant […]

Thanks to Nokia UK I’ll be kicking off the re-launch of HiBlue with a long-term test of the Nokia 808 PureView, a device that has many connected camera fans excited. I took in the Nokia N8 for testing nearly two years ago and before that I was a Nokia N82 owner for two years. I’ve had a short term ownership of the Omnia Pro and Experia X10 during the last two years too. All excellent cameraphones. I’m excited to be testing the PureView.

Back on the 8th of August we talked about a WiFi issue with our Lenovo U310 Ultrabook. The range and speed were not up to par with other devices using the same access point. After our story on the 8th, Mark, an admin from the Lenovo support forums, responded to indicate that Lenovo had nailed down the problem which was affecting U310 and U410 units. Mark explained that U310 and U410 units manufactured before July 23rd had the issue which would require servicing to fix. Lenovo and retailers seem to be still […]

You’ll see this touchscreen Ultrabook used extensively over the next month or so as I explore and demonstrate software and operating system elements. In this video I want to answer one of the most often asked questions – why have a touchscreen on a laptop when your hands need to be near the mouse and keyboard? I’ve been using touchscreen devices since 2007. For over 1 year I used a touchscreen netbook as my only laptop, It was running Windows XP (not tablet edition) and had a resistive touchscreen. Even […]

Not content with creating a ton of promotional videos and artistic material through the collaboration with will.i.am, Intel is now teaming up with W Hotels, Roman Coppola, Levis and others to offer creative people another chance to get involved in some unique experiences. There’s ‘Four Stories’ which is chance to submit a screenplay and get it filmed in one of five W hotels around the world, a ‘Friends Of’ collaboration with Levi’s to create a T-Shirt and ‘Always On’ an event that Intel are only teasing us about right […]

If I had more time, I would be writing a blog called ‘Connected Cameras’ unfortunately I don’t but today’s news about the new Android-powered Nikon S800C makes me wonder if I could create the time needed for this important, game-changing product category of connected and smart cameras. For the time being I’ll continue here though, it’s about the only thing I write about here anyway so maybe I’ll just re-name this blog! Back to the Nikon S800C – It’s a camera, with Wifi, and and Android back! It’s not […]
