ZaReason Ultralap 430 comes with Linux

Posted on 13 August 2012

It’s not clear whether a Linux-based ultrathin with Ultrabook hardware specifications can be called an Ultrabook. Probably not because ZaReason don’t mention Ultrabook at all in their information on the Ultralap 430 – a Linux-based laptop built on  Ultrabook hardware that’s now available. The Ultrabook name is not going to matter to this audience though.

Posted on 13 August 2012

Aiming to get a lead on other touchscreen Ultrabooks, Acer has decided to launch the Acer Aspire S7 before Windows 8. We’re not expecting the model to be available in large volumes though as this sounds like a marketing move.

A thin bezel, high resolution matte screen, and integrated 3G make this an Ultrabook you should definitely consider. The Lenovo team has produced and unboxing video which lets you get a look at the final product which should be gracing store shelves soon.

Lenovo IdeaPad U310/U410 WiFi Issues

Posted on 08 August 2012

Lenovo’s IdeaPad U310 Ultrabook hit the market not long ago but apparently not without issues. Problems with WiFi range and speed have been reported by a number of users. We’ve actually had a chance to get out hands on two U310’s for testing and both have exhibited the problem. We mentioned this issue in our U310 unboxing article, but because it’s a persistent issue we wanted to highlight it as a warning to those looking at the U310. According to several reports, the U410 Ultrabook shares the same issue.

Asus Quietly Announces S46 and S56 Ultrabook With Discrete Graphics and Optical Drive

Posted on 06 August 2012

Asus has quietly made and official announcement about their upcoming S46 and S56 Ultrabook via press release saying that the S-series Ultrabooks “are the only products in their segment to achieve a true all-in approach to features”. We saw the S46 (14″) and S56 (15.6″) during Computex back in June, but strangely Asus made no official announcements regarding their availability or even existence; it seems they were preoccupied with the exciting TaiChi and Transformer Book. Given the announcement, expect to see the S46 and S56 on store shelves soon.
