Sony is now offering a Vaio T14 Ultrabook, a 14″ version of the company’s Ultrabook line. It joins the aptly named T11 (11″) and T13 (13″). This one slipped under our radar last month amid the flood of Windows 8 Ultrabooks being announced. Sony unfortunately missed an opportunity to add additional features to the T14, instead opting to included a dated optical drive.

After marketing the product as ‘new’ for many months after it had become outdated, Dell has now quietly refreshed its original Ultrabook, the XPS 13, with the latest processors from Intel. You can now find the Dell XPS 13 Starting at $999 on Dell’s site.

This is the feature that we’ve been waiting for low power states in Windows that match what you might see on a smartphone. Always on! Personally I think it’s a feature that Intel haven’t promoted well enough, possibly because it makes Ultrabooks look a little old fashioned. The Ultimate Coder Ultrabook Challenge was a great experience for me, a challenge for the contestants and I hope, through the detailed information that was written by all concerned, a help and inspiration to some of you developers out there. During my week at the Intel Developer Forum I met all the teams and also spoke to Bob Duffy who is not only a fellow Vic-20 fan but is responsible for organizing and communicating with the software community around Ultrabooks.

The Verge’s Sean Hollister has a review of the new HP Envy 4 TouchSmart Ultrabook. This is essentially the same as the Envy 4 Ultrabook from HP but it runs Windows 8 and includes a touchscreen. The Envy 4 TouchSmart starts at $750 from HP; does Windows 8 and a touchscreen significantly enhanced the experience?

A new AMD-based ultralight has surfaced with Ultrabook looks, the ASUS Vivotab brand and a very interesting CPU and GPU combination. The ASUS Vivobook U38DT is available for pre-order in Germany.

Rising up the charts at Ultrabooknews is the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist S230u. Targeted at business users it’s a smart and strong looking convertible touch Ultrabook but the current $746 offer could see it landing in a large number of consumer hands too.

The Velocity Micro VMUltraDrive looks like the perfect desktop companion for your Ultrabook. If you’re using an Ultrabook on the desk I advise taking a look at your setup. How many cables are you pugging in and out each day? Do you have two 1080p screens for the best productivity and have you got an external HDD linked-up for the new Windows 8 feature – File History? This combi HDD/DVD and USB3.0 hub could really help with that modular desktop setup.
