I’ve had a very productive week at Mobile World Congress thanks to the Fujitsu Q702. It was worry-free, adaptor-free and charger free because for the first time, I managed to get through a long day’s work without a charger. I also learnt about things I don’t need at a conference. VPro was one (no surprises there for this independent worker) and the detachable tablet was another. The Fujitsu Q702 has been kindly supplied by Notebooksbilliger.

7 teams have just finished week 2 of the Ultimate Coder Challenge, building showcase perceptual computing applications on a Lenovo Yoga 13 that will demonstrate the sort of interaction capability that could be built into a Ultrabook, and perhaps the operating system in the future. I’m involved with the judging of the Ultimate Coder event and every week you’ll find an update from me as I analyse the teams progress. This is week 2. The teams presented their application ideas last week and I was honestly quite surprised at the […]

Eric Mantion from Intel gives us an overview of a new tool Intel have developed for porting IOS apps into HTML5 so they can be re-distributed onto other platforms. The app porter does the ‘kickstart’ work in getting the bulk of the code working under HTML5 and Javascript and identifies areas of the code that need hand-tuning. For those people with existing IOS apps looking to go to other platforms, this could be a great way to get things moving or even to analyse the manpower involved in a porting […]

I’ve had a chance to spend time with the LG Clovertrail-based slider, the H160. It’s the only Clovertrail device where the screen is separate for the Clovertrail platform.

Gesture2Launch is a touch gesture mapping application that allows you to launch applications with different gestures. It’s tidy and it seems to work very well. It’s free too!

I’ve had a chance to look at the HP Elitepad Smart Jackets and they’re not bad. They’re rugged, provide some good features and help to set the Elitepad apart from the rest of the Clovertrail Tablets. First of all we’ve got the expansion jacket which offers 2x USB, HDMI and an SD card slot. You can also add an additional battery in the jacket. There’s the productivity jacket which includes the keyboard, stand with adjustable angle, 2XUSB and full SD card slot. It makes a nice case for the […]

I was at the ASUS press conference today as part of my trip to MWC and managed to catch the launch of the ASUS Fonepad. It’s a 7-inch Jelly-Bean Android tab running on an Intel Z4240. It’s got phone functionality. It costs 229 Euro Who said Intel tablets were expensive? Video below. Android Jelly Bean, 16GB of storage, the Intel Z4240 CPU, front-facing cam and of course, 3G. This ins’t a top-end tablet but it’s incredible value for those wanting a consumption device with 3G.

I had completely forgotten about the HP Elitebook Revolve 810 so when I spotted it at a Mobile World Congress pre-event this evening I was a little more excited than I should have been. Having had a good look at though it deserves some praise for a quality and stylish build, good set of ports, removable battery, TPM, VPro (I couldn’t find evidence of it though), optional digitizer and more.
